Let's start with the verse memorized during the week, Isaiah 25:9 and speaks. On that day:
"Behold, this is our God;
We have waited for Him, and He will save us.
This is the Lord;
We have waited for Him;
We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation." The second coming of Christ is mentioned hundreds of times throughout the Bible. There are more than 300 references in the New Testament alone. Since the New Testament has 260 chapters, this means that more than once per chapter, we must mention Jesus' return.
On Sunday, we saw that over the centuries, promises like those described in John 14:1 to 3, where Jesus vehemently declares, I will come again, or in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 to 18 and Titus 2:11 to 14, where Paul speaks of our blessed Hope. These and other promises of the second coming have filled the lives of Christ's followers with Hope and certainty.
On Monday, we learned about what Jesus' return will be like. Acts 1:9 to 11 says he will return like he went up. That is, in a visible, personal, and corporeal way. Revelation 17 says that he comes with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who participated in his death. Already in Matthew 24, verses 27, 30 and 31. Jesus said that it would be like lightning; he would come in the clouds of the heavens with power and glory and a great trumpet blast.
On Tuesday, we saw that just like the Reformers, with divine help, they discovered the truth about justification through faith alone in Christ. William Miller was God's instrument in rediscovering the truth about what the second coming of Christ would be like. As Miller studied the scriptures, he discovered a Christ who loved him more than he could have imagined. With the Bible, a pen, and a notebook, he began reading Genesis and continued to understand each passage. By comparing verse with verse, he allowed the Bible to explain itself.
On Wednesday, we learned that from the ashes of the disappointment of 1844, God was raising a people, a movement to spread the news of salvation to every nation, tribe, and tongue. We can never forget that God has a schedule, and everything happens within Divine planning. The 2300 evenings and mornings or 2300 years of Daniel 8:14 have a beginning and an end.
On Thursday, the 2300 evenings and mornings represent the most significant period of prophetic time. In Daniel 9, the angel told Daniel that the period would begin with a decree to restore and build Jerusalem, Daniel 9:25. Artaxerxes' decree in 457 BC was the last of 3 decrees that allowed the Jews to return to rebuild Jerusalem and restore temple services. Cyrus and Darius edited the first two. This third decree was the most complete and marks the beginning of the 2300 years. Therefore, the period ended in 1844, after Christ. William Miller believed that the sanctuary to be purified would be the Earth and assumed that Christ would purify the Earth with fire. As I already told you, Miller got the date right but got the event wrong. Because the cleansing of the sanctuary predicted was the judgment or beginning of judgment in the heavenly sanctuary, not the return of Jesus.
