OPTIMIZE with Brian Johnson | More Wisdom in Less Time

In our last +1, we had some fun making our Optimize virtue compass. Recall the four cardinal points correspond with our four cardinal virtues.

As I was preparing for our Mastery Series Module on Hero-ology (aka: The Study of a Good Hero), I was having fun thinking about how to operationalize Joseph Campbell’s wisdom on the hero’s journey.

Not too long ago, we hung out with my friend Tripp Lanier who helped us gain perspective via a little thought exercise that included us looking through the Hubble telescope at distant galaxies.

Not too long ago, we had fun revisiting some Stoic wisdom as we mined some goodness with a range of books—including Musonius Rufus’s Lectures and Sayings, Donald Robertson’s How to Think Like a Roman Emperor and William B. Irvine’s The Stoic Challenge.

In our last +1, we played the “I want to speak with your supervisor!” game. You play it yet? If not, try it. It’s truly awesome. As you’ll recall, the most important part of the process is to start with the end in mind—knowing that it’ll end with you praising the awesomeness of the rep who helped you.

In our last +1, we spent some time with Seneca and the Buddha and Walter Russell—reminding ourselves of the importance of doing the mundane, less-than-inspiring tasks with all we’ve got.

We’re in the process of selling our house while buying another. As part of that process, I’ve been on the phone a lot more than normal—chatting with different people from different companies to collect all the paperwork and data we need to close the transactions.

My friend Tripp Lanier is a very funny guy. He’s also a very wise guy. In his new book called This Book Will Make You Dangerous he shares some of the wisdom he’s acquired coaching guys for the last 15 years.

In our last +1, we had some fun with the “How’d you two meet?!” Johnson Family Love Story. Alexandra: “I’m going to marry him.”

Brian: “!!!” Then we explored some Love wisdom from Leo Buscaglia. Today we’re going to revisit his great book, appropriately called Love.

In our last +1, we upgraded our conception of Soul Mates to Soul Mate 2.0. (At least I did!) Before we jump into the wisdom for Today’s +1, how about some fun Johnson family history?!
