This is the first in person podcast I have done and it was great to chat to First Team Lead Sports Scientist at Hull City, Steve Barrett. Steve is a GREAT guy and like a few of the other guests I have had on recently, is a 'pracademic', someone who has a foot in both the academic and applied camp. With Steve's PhD investigating PlayerLoad, we naturally focus a lot around training monitoring but also dig into issues which he faces at Hull with multiple managers over the last few years. Enjoy!

This is Lachlan's second time on the pod but since his first appearance he has moved from GWS Giants to being High Performance Manager at Parramatta Eels in the NRL. Lachlan worked under David Joyce (another podcast guest) for a number of years at GWS Giants in AFL and has become best known for his thoughts around hamstring training and injury reduction. This article Lachlan wrote for Strength of Science may also be of value. He has also set up his own gym, Athletes Authority which we discuss in this episode of the podcast. Enjoy.

Mike is a Professor in Strength & Conditioning from Auckland University of Technology and this episode follows on from the discussion last week with Derek Hansen. However, Derek focused on the topic of microdosing in terms of what goes on on the field in sprint training and conditioning whereas Mike will dive into microdosing in the gym. As well as this, Mike talks about transfer of training as well as how we can maximise our athlete's output during periods of fixture congestion. Enjoy.

Derek Hansen is an expert when it comes to getting people fast. I have been wanting to get Derek on the podcast for a while sp I was really pleased when he agreed to come on for a chat. This episode centres around the premise of microdosing and not in a drug sense. Microdosing is exactly that, dissecting longer sessions into a number of smaller sessions which are spread throughout the week. Derek has written at length on this topic with some of his writing available at the following site; strengthspeedpower.com, simplifaster.com & via his Performance Video Essays Enjoy!

Yann Le Meur has become a celebrity in the world of sports science after the creation and popularity of his infographics and little white men. I have been dying to get Yann on the podcast for a few years and I am grateful to podcast guests, Martin Buchheit and Mathieu Lacome for helping to get Yann on. What many people maybe don't realise is that Yann is an incredible scientist with a number of publications to his name. For that reason we speak a lot about this in this podcast. Enjoy.

This is part 2 of the chat with Shane Malone and Shane Mangan. You can find part 1 here. In this episode we delve a little deeper into training load monitoring and the intricacies around using GPS and other methods. Shane Mangan also speaks on Elo predictive modelling which is a really interesting chat and links nicely with a previous episode of the podcast with Sam Robertson. We also replicate a discussion I had with Aaron Coutts around the positives and negatives of the acute:chronic ratio. Enjoy!

Gaelic football experts, Shane Malone & Shane Mangan join me on the podcast for an excellent episode delving into loads of interesting areas. It was so interesting and so in depth that I have cut the episode in half with this being the part 1, and part 2 coming next week. Shane Malone is a sports scientist and PhD student at Liverpool John Moores with Shane Mangan a sports scientist and member of the Gaelic Sports Research Centre in Dublin. Enjoy.

Head of Hockey Performance at UMASS Lowell, Devan McConnell and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at San Diego Gull, Justin Roethlingshoefer come on the podcast as a double act after the release of their new book, INTENT. I really enjoyed chatting with these guys and although very ill at the time (as you will hear), these guys do an amazing job of taking a snapshot of the industry from their perspective and delivering their message in terms of athlete monitoring with their INTENT system. Enjoy!

Mark Kovacs is the go to guy when it comes to strength and conditioning in tennis. Mark is owner of the Kovacs Institute which offers a wide range of services from validating new technologies to offering coaching to elite athletes. This is Mark's second time on the podcast after he appeared in episode 106 where we spoke about the physical demands of tennis, coaching lateral movements and recovery during grand slams. I wanted to make this episode as applied as possible so hopefully it fits the bill. Enjoy.

Aaron has been on my radar for a LONG time! I was amazed when I spoke to a former PhD student of his, just how many people who occupy big jobs around the world have come through UTS under Aaron's tutelage. There has been much made of the acute:chronic ratio over the last couple of years with a recent upsurge in research outlining its limitations. In this episode, Aaron speaks in some depth about the background to the A:C ratio and why practitioners need to know its full story before making decisions based off it. Enjoy!
