  1. Number 1: There’s No Such Thing as a Simple Pelvic Health Patient: An Interview with Michelle Lyons

There’s no such thing as a simple pelvic health patient. Even the patient who walks in with “just a little stress incontinence” brings a history, a body, hormones, sleep, stress, previous injuries, bowel function, activity goals—and a whole lot more. And that's exactly why being a great pelvic health clinician requires so much more than memorizing protocols. We're joined by Michelle Lyons for one of those wide-ranging, thought-provoking conversations we always love having with her. Michelle has been part of PelviCon from the very beginning. She's our only 5-time PelviCon speaker, an incredible educator and one of the most thoughtful voices in our profession. In this episode, we talk about: 🪟 Why assessing the pelvic floor still matters. Michelle shares the analogy of an internal + external assessment being like “washing the windows on both sides”—and why telehealth can be valuable as well as, rather than instead of, in-person assessment. 🧩 Why there are no simple patients. Even seemingly straightforward incontinence can require us to think about hips, hormones, sleep, iron, constipation, previous injuries, activity and more. 🧠 What clinical reasoning actually looks like. Information isn't enough. Great clinicians have to connect seemingly unrelated pieces into a coherent picture. 🎓 Why pelvic health desperately needs more mentorship. Taking Pelvic Floor 1 doesn't magically make someone an expert. New clinicians need support, supervision and safe places to ask questions. 🔬 Why better research isn't enough. Michelle used to believe better research would automatically lead to better pelvic health care. She's changed her mind. We also need to get much better at translating evidence into actual behavior change. 🌱 Why clinicians are facilitators, not fixers. Our job is to create the conditions where patients can recover, build capacity and thrive. And Michelle gives us a preview of her two PelviCon talks—one on pelvic health after cancer and another on women and back pain—including some brand-new oncology guidelines she's been involved in developing. 🎟️ Final Chance for PelviCon Live Virtual + Recording! 2. Number 2: Your Business Doesn't Have to Grow

More revenue. More patients. More clinicians. More locations. We're constantly told that a "successful" business should always be getting bigger. But what if you don't actually want it to? 🤔 There are plenty of GREAT reasons not to grow. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 You're in a season where family needs more of you. ✈️ You want to travel or prioritize life outside the practice. 💰 You're already making enough money. 🙅‍♀️ You have absolutely zero desire to manage employees. ❤️ Or maybe you're just…happy with what you've built! And sometimes growth stalls for reasons you didn't choose—staff turnover, seasonality, capacity issues, losing a referral source, or just the normal ups and downs of running a business. A flat year doesn't mean you failed. But there's an important flip side… "I don't want to grow" can also become a really convenient story we tell ourselves when we're actually afraid to grow. 😬 There's a difference between intentionally choosing to maintain your business and avoiding the hard things required to take the next step. And remember: not growing doesn't mean not improving. If your revenue stays flat but you work 10 fewer hours a week, take four more weeks of vacation, increase your profit, improve your systems and enjoy your business more? 🎉 That's a better business. The question isn't: "Did my business grow this year?" It's: 👉 "Did my business do what I wanted it to do for me this year?" 🚀 Want to build a business that actually works for YOU? That's exactly what we do in the Pelvic Health Business Accelerator—helping pelvic health business owners get consistently full, improve their systems and build the business they actually want. 3. Number 3: How to Actually Be an Evidence-Based Clinician: An Interview with Taryn Hallam

Reading research and actually understanding what it means for the patient in front of you are two VERY different things. And there may be nobody in pelvic health better at bridging that gap than Taryn Hallam. Taryn has essentially made research translation her full-time job—reading the enormous amount of pelvic health research being published and asking: What does this actually mean in the clinic? Because the abstract doesn't always tell the whole story. As Taryn puts it, the abstract is like the trailer for a movie. Sometimes the trailer accurately represents the movie. And sometimes...all the best parts were in the trailer. 😆 In this episode, we're diving deep into how we actually become evidence-based clinicians. We talk about: 📊 Statistical significance vs. clinical significance. A result can be completely “statistically significant” and still be basically meaningless to your patient. 🎬 Why you can't just read the abstract. What gets highlighted in an abstract isn't necessarily what matters most clinically. 🔬 Why one research paper is never the whole story. Taryn compares a single paper to opening a 450-page novel to page 210 and expecting to understand the plot. 🤰 The danger of extrapolating research to the wrong population. What happens when research on young, nulliparous athletes gets applied to a completely different patient sitting in front of us? 🤷‍♀️ Why “we don't know” is sometimes the most evidence-based answer. We don't need to pretend the research is more definitive than it actually is. 🧠 How experience changes our ability to assess. Can research showing poor reliability among relatively inexperienced clinicians really tell us what an expert with decades of pattern recognition can—or can't—feel? 🔥 And yes...we ask Taryn about the internal exam debate. Her answer? Let's just say she has some thoughts. 😆 We talk prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, levator avulsion, pelvic floor muscle training, tone, overactivity—and why Taryn believes an internal examination remains an essential component of best-practice pelvic health care. But she also makes an incredibly important distinction: Saying virtual care has value and saying an internal examination adds important clinical information are NOT contradictory statements. Both can be true. And sometimes our profession gets into arguments because we haven't even agreed on what question we're debating. 🎟️ Learn From Taryn at PelviCon 2026! If you like Taryn on the podcast, you are going to LOVE her at PelviCon. She's bringing us two completely different—and appropriately disruptive—presentations. Should Possible Levator Avulsion Change Our Approach? This one is for the research nerds. 🤓 Taryn is digging into the actual studies and statistics, including what odds ratios and p-values really tell us, to ask whether suspected levator avulsion should change how we approach someone in those first few months postpartum. Coital Incontinence & Female Ejaculation And this one tackles a topic many of us simply weren't taught enough about. Our patients may be nervous enough to bring these concerns up. We shouldn't be sitting there thinking, Oh crap...what do I say now? 😬 Taryn is going to give us the research, understanding and language to have these conversations with confidence. Her Research Update helps clinicians keep up with the enormous amount of new evidence being published, understand the statistics behind it, put individual studies into context—and most importantly, figure out what it actually means for patient care. 📚 Check out WHTA and Taryn's Research Update 📱 Follow @whtaeducation on Instagram About Nicole & Jesse Cozean Pelvic health is hard. 4. Number 4: What’s the Point If You Hate Your Business?

You can make great money. You can have control of your schedule. But…do you actually like the business you've created? 😬 In Part 3 of our Make the Business Work for You series, we're talking about the third major piece of upside you traded for when you became a business owner: satisfaction & impact. 🙌 Ideally, as your business grows, your role should get BETTER. ✨ More time doing things you're great at. ❤️ More of the work you genuinely enjoy. 💰 More time spent on things that actually create value. 🗑️ Less answering phones, chasing paperwork, putting out preventable fires, scrambling for patients, and doing all the little things you hate. And then there's impact. Maybe success means becoming the go-to pelvic health resource in your community. Maybe it's mentoring clinicians, creating incredible jobs, building relationships with providers, or growing a team that can help far more patients than you ever could by yourself. 🌎 There's no single "right" version of a successful pelvic health business. And that's the whole point of this series. Money. Time. Satisfaction & impact. You don't have to maximize all three at the same time—and sometimes you can't. But you gave up a LOT of consistency to become an entrepreneur. 👉 Make sure you're actually collecting the upside you traded for. 🚀 Want to build a business that actually works for YOU? That's exactly what we do in the Pelvic Health Business Accelerator—helping you build a thriving practice that's financially successful without losing sight of the life and career you actually wanted when you started. 5. Number 5: Are We Really Providing Whole-Person Care If We Ignore Spirituality? With Sinéad Dufour

We talk a lot about providing “whole-person care.” But are we actually doing it? And if we leave spirituality completely out of the conversation...can we really call our care whole-person? This is exactly the kind of question we love exploring with Dr. Sinéad Dufour. Sinéad is one of the researchers and educators we respect most because she's constantly willing to examine the evidence, challenge her own assumptions and change her mind when the science takes her somewhere new. So naturally, when she decided to go back to graduate school for counseling and spiritual care, we knew the conversation was going to be fascinating. 😆 And it's the foundation for the panel she's leading at PelviCon this year: Spirit in Session: Towards Whole-Person Pelvic Healthcare In this episode, we dive into: ✨ Spirituality vs. religion — why they're not the same thing, and why that distinction matters in healthcare. 🧠 Is biopsychosocial care actually whole-person care? Sinéad argues there's another domain we often leave out. ❤️ Purpose, meaning and compassion in the treatment room — and how pelvic health clinicians may already be touching on spirituality without realizing it. 🚧 Where's the line between whole-person care and “out of scope”? And what training, mentorship and self-awareness do clinicians need? 💻 What does GOOD virtual pelvic health care actually look like? Sinéad has built both in-person and virtual practices and has some fascinating thoughts about where virtual care shines—and where it simply cannot replace in-person assessment. 👀 The great irony of virtual care: Sinéad believes that becoming excellent virtually may require years of honing your skills in person first. 🤝 Why pelvic PTs need to refer to other pelvic PTs more often. Sometimes the best care isn't choosing virtual or in-person—it's creating a circle of care around the patient. And Sinéad is now leading research to answer one of the questions our profession desperately needs better evidence around: What actually constitutes high-quality virtual pelvic health care? We can't wait to see what she finds. 🎟️ Learn from Sinéad LIVE at PelviCon 2026! We're now just DAYS away from PelviCon! Sinéad will be leading what might be one of the most unique conversations we've ever had on the PelviCon stage: Spirit in Session: Towards Whole-Person Pelvic Healthcare She'll be joined by Shelly Prosko, Yeni Abraham and Lynn Schulte for a panel discussion about spirituality, meaning, purpose and what it really means to care for the whole person.
