Paul Griffin is an outside-the-box thinker and believes the skillset we possess as podiatrists is quite unique and can be utilised in many areas.
Paul graduated from Curtin University, Western Australia in 1998. He ran two podiatry businesses, each with a different clinical focus and in 2009 decided to move away from clinical podiatry to explore a diversified career.
Paul currently splits his time running the education site, Bartold Clinical and is a director of Osaka Footwear Singapore.
In this episode we discuss:
Final Tip
Buy yourself some time to do other things, which means making sure you have time in your schedule to make sure it happens. If you try and add it on top of what you're already doing you'll burn out.
Explore what your character is looking for. It could be art, business or other projects, and then make sure you position yourself in that community so you can have those worthwhile, weighted discussions.
Always surround yourself with people that will bring the best out of you.

If you were standing in line at the local grocery store and a stranger walked up and asked you to pay for their grocery items because they didn't have any money, would you reach into your pocket and hand them the money they required, and then trust they'll pay you back next month when they get paid?
If your answer is NO, then why would you give a stranger an account in your podiatry business?

Carly O'Donoghue is the owner of Stepping Out Podiatry on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. In this episode, Carly shares the pain, guilt, and decision-making process in wanting to be both a successful business owner and a good mother.
Carly openly shares what it's like to go through a four to five year IVF program and try to run and podiatry business and treat patients, all the while being asked by well-meaning patients, "when are you going to have children"?
We also discuss:
"Manners don't cost you anything. Saying please, thank you and sorry, with a smile doesn't cost you anything. So whether you're poor or rich, it doesn't matter".
Get Off the Dance Floor & Get On the Balcony
When you're on the dance floor, you cannot see anything but other dancers; however, you can see exactly where everyone is positioned with each other if you get on the balcony and look down. Your business is the same.
One day a week is not enough time to run your business if you have multiple employees. Day one is used for planning, and days two and three is for implementation.
Leadership
Leadership is a different skill set that must be learned, and there are no shortcuts or secrets; it just takes time.
Final Tip
Be self-aware. It's not fair to compare yourself to others that have been qualified much longer.
Be realistic about where you are now and where you need to be in the future. Only compare yourself to the progression to where you were last year.

One of the best habits you can develop in your podiatry business, which applies to both the business owner and ALL TEAM MEMBERS, is to Under Promise and Over Deliver.
Too often, though, Podiatrists do the exact opposite.
They over promise and under deliver, which causes many long-term problems for the podiatry business.

In part one, Sam Harrop covered the first five critical areas of your podiatry business that need your attention if you want to become an employer of choice and have potential team members chasing you instead of the other way around.
In this episode, Part-2, Sam covers the next six critical areas:

What's A BUMP?
It's an unexpected team bonus that you factor into your budget. You cannot do a bump consistently; otherwise, it becomes predictable and loses its value.
It's about created that WOW moment, which is so much more powerful.

When does admiration turn to envy? Have you ever wondered if other podiatrists admire what you do or envy what you do? Admiration is good; Envy is bad.

Most podiatrists understand the fundamental marketing concepts needed to attract a consistent flow of new patients to their podiatry businesses. Still, when it comes to marketing their business to attract new talent and team members, they often fall short.
My guest Sam Harrop will cover eleven critical areas of your podiatry business that need your attention if you want to become an employer of choice and have potential team members chasing you instead of the other way around.
Sam is the author of 'Getting Stuff Done' and 'Small Business Big Exit'. He is also the Business Maximiser Programme founder, a coaching program designed for ambitious tradie business owners. He helps them to maximise sales, productivity, and cash flow.
In this episode, we discuss:"Paying podiatrist more money is like a sugar hit; it's only short-lived".
"Gossip thrives when there's a lack of communication."
