About me...
My name is Rachel Corbett and I've worked professionally for almost two decades in radio and podcasting. I've hosted and produced shows for some of the biggest radio networks in Australia, created three of my own independent podcasts and I was Head of Podcasts for Mamamia, the largest women's podcast network in the world.
At Mamamia, I grew the podcast network from 15 to over 35 shows, the team from two to nine producers and the audience to over 1 million unique listeners a month and over 90 million downloads which is more than quadruple where it was when I started.
I've also hosted over ten podcasts with more than 2 million downloads including Lady Startup, Eligible, Before The Bump and You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere. You can find all my podcasts at rachelcorbett.com.au/podcasts.
I've taught radio and podcasting at the Australia Film Television and Radio School and have my own online podcasting course, PodSchool, so if you're looking for someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to pods, you've come to the right place.

Covering up recording in different locations is possible but it depends on how different the locations are.
If one recording was done in a library and the other at a Monster Truck rally it'll probably be impossible to make those sound like they were in the same place.
But if you want to make it sound like you did everything in one sitting the key is to record some ambient sound.
In this episode I explain how to make recording in multiple locations sound like it was done in one sitting.

Finding a podcast niche when you're starting out can be useful because it can help people find your show. If you're not someone with an existing profile chances are potential listeners won't be searching for you. So ideally you want your podcast to be in a niche they're already interested in.
Having a defined podcast niche can also help convince listeners to give your show a try when they do find you because there's more chance they'll understand the concept.
There's nothing compelling about "a general show about stuff" from someone you've never heard of. But if you can sell people on a specific idea they'll be able to quickly work out if it's for them.
Finding a niche for your podcast isn't about being so specific you shut people out or limiting yourself so you've got nothing to talk about. It's about finding a way to stand out in a very crowded podcast market.
