About me...
My name is Rachel Corbett and I've worked professionally for almost two decades in radio and podcasting. I've hosted and produced shows for some of the biggest radio networks in Australia, created three of my own independent podcasts and I was Head of Podcasts for Mamamia, the largest women's podcast network in the world.
At Mamamia, I grew the podcast network from 15 to over 35 shows, the team from two to nine producers and the audience to over 1 million unique listeners a month and over 90 million downloads which is more than quadruple where it was when I started.
I've also hosted over ten podcasts with more than 2 million downloads including Lady Startup, Eligible, Before The Bump and You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere. You can find all my podcasts at rachelcorbett.com.au/podcasts.
I've taught radio and podcasting at the Australia Film Television and Radio School and have my own online podcasting course, PodSchool, so if you're looking for someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to pods, you've come to the right place.

How do you make the most of the real estate at the end of your podcast episodes so you don't waste those final precious moments by saying something like "Ummmm, ok...so, that's it...BYE!"?
The end of your podcast episodes shouldn't be an afterthought. You give a lot of attention to how you get into your content but it's important to think about how to wrap things up too.
The people who've stuck with you all the way to the end are your hardcore fans. So it's a good place to tell them what to do next so your relationship with them doesn't end when the podcast is over.
In this episode I take you through some of the different ways you can end your podcast episodes so you're making the most of those final moments with your fans.

Listeners access podcasts via directories like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher and Spotify. And since getting more listeners is the name of the game you want to make sure your show is available in as many places as possible.
You don't need to spend the rest of your life making sure your show is in every podcast app that's ever been created. In fact, a lot of them will automatically pull your show from other directories so you don't have to do anything to get your show on there.
So what directories should you submit your show to, to make sure it's available to as many listeners as possible?

If you're wondering whether to include episode numbers in the title of each episode, let me save you the virtual ink.
There are of course some cases where this might be necessary but for the most part you want to enter your episode numbers in the back end of your podcast host rather than in the title of your show.
In this episode I explain why.

Setting aside the obvious need for a microphone and something to record on, the one thing in your podcast kit you can't live without is a pair of headphones. And that goes for everyone whose dulcet tones will be featured on your show.
This is obviously a given when you're interviewing a guest via Skype or Zencastr because without headphones they won't be able to hear you. But if you're chatting to someone face-to-face or you have a co-host, everyone will need their own pair.
If your guest wants to bring their own headphones for the podcast, earbuds will do fine. But it's always good to carry a spare pair just in case.
Just remember, if you're going to supply headphones make sure you get ones that go over a guest's ears rather than into them because some people are funny about having a strangers ear wax in their earholes...understandably.

Most people think if they get a few high-profile podcast guests their audience numbers will skyrocket. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case.
Not only do guests with big profiles not guarantee a spike in numbers they're often difficult to get on if you don't have existing relationships to tap into.
So, if this type of podcast guest is something you desperately want on your show. And you know it's right for your content (not just something you're doing for more listeners) in this episode I go through some important things you need to think about.

Unless you've got an existing profile it's very hard to grow an audience with a podcast that's general. That's because when people are searching for shows they're usually drawn to concepts they're interested in or people they know.
If they do happen to stumble across your show you want them to know exactly what it is in a couple of seconds or they'll probably walk right on by.
In this episode I take you through why it's better to be specific than general when you're thinking about your show idea.

A lot of people hold themselves back from starting a show because they don't think they've got a good podcast voice.
But when you're trying to connect with people you've never met your content, delivery and authenticity will matter a million times more than your voice.
