  • #202: How to Clearly Define Your Employee Job Description
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training When I started my farm 15 years ago, I was a one-woman show. It was me, my overalls, and a big dream. After about a month of milking cows twice a day, seven days a week, and running kids to basketball games in between, it was time to admit defeat that I could NOT do it all myself. I needed a really reliable farmhand who's not afraid of a little manure and a lot of udder chaos! If you're struggling to get everything done AND make money, this week's episode will help. If you don't think you can afford to hire help, this episode's REALLY going to help you. I walk you through how to create a job description that you can turn into an ad to make your first (or tenth) hire. Plus, I'm sharing the very first thing you need to do if you want to hire employees but don't think you can afford to yet. This is part one of three that'll move you closer to finding help with the manual labor so you can focus on building a profitable farm. Warmly, Charlotte

  • #201: My Step-by-Step Process for Drop Sites or Delivery
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training Getting your products into the hands of the people who need them most can sometimes be a challenge - do you build a farm stand on your farm? Or do you sign up for multiple farmer's markets? Or, try to get into stores or restaurants? What's best? There are so many options for selling! And there are pros and cons to all options. Many of my clients - farmers all over the US - have started doing drop sites, and for some of them, this is their only way of selling. They say they love the control over their schedule they have. They no longer have the hard labor of markets - packing up and schlepping their stuff to the market, only to often turn around and have to bring some of it back home again, unpack and restock. When they use pre-orders and drop sites, as I teach, they know that what they pack up is presold and will NOT be coming home with them. Today I share my step-by-step process and I have the exact steps l use. You'll also learn:
    • my strict boundaries that ensure everyone shows up to get their order
    • the technique I use to make sure my costs are covered while still offering "free delivery"
    • understand how "if you confuse them, you lose them!"
Use my process as a guide—it may not work exactly for you, but take what works and add your own spin. Lastly, forward this to your farmer friends who may need this extra instruction to set up their drop site or delivery process. Enjoy, Charlotte

  • #200: How This Alabama Farmer Pays Herself, Her Kids, and Is Building a Balanced & Profitable Farm Business
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training Today on the podcast, you'll hear how this farmer is making 30% more money on her farm this year over last, paying her kids and herself, AND living with calm and balance. Glenna Dunnigan, a farmer in Florence, Alabama, found herself stuck in a windowless cubicle working for a cotton company in Tennessee. >>Tune In To Hear Glenna's Success Story HERE That's NOT what she dreamed of doing with her Business Ag degree - she dreamed of having her own farm. But she knew it couldn't look like her dad's farm - growing up on her family farm, she rarely saw her dad! He came home every night at 9 PM, ate dinner, and fell into bed long enough to get up and do it all again the next day. She's building a farm that she can pass on to her kids - they don't want a farm life that requires 18-hour days and lots of debt! They want to take over a money-making business. So she joined my 5X Your Farm Sales program last August, and you'll hear about her success today. "You've empowered me by teaching me how to make money on this land using the marketing strategies and business planning you teach." Glenna says: For several years, my farm was just limping along, making enough to buy seeds for the next year. But when I did your farm marketing business planning, the next year we made 30% MORE sales than I'd even planned on in my wildest dreams! I couldn't afford NOT to do this program! I'm paying my kids and making a nice profit. "You've helped me create proof I can make enough money to have a sustainable life with my family." >>Listen to Glenna's story Today on the Profitable Mindset Podcast Glenna's an example of what's possible for you, too, when you implement the mindset and marketing strategies I teach. See you in the episode! Warmly, Charlotte

  • #199: The Five Phases of Your Farm Business for Game-Changing Success
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training There are 5 phases you must go through on your farm to get to profit. Sounds good so far - nice and easy! Just 5 phases! But there's a massive problem with this - Most people get stuck looping in the first 3 phases and NEVER get to move on to phases 4 and 5. You can't get to a successful and profitable farm, though, unless you get through all the stages. You'll learn that phase 3 is the HARDEST stage - I don't call it 'the river of misery' for nothing! It's the stage that makes you think you've done the wrong thing and need to quit. It can take many months, maybe a year or two, to get to stage 4, but farmers tell me it's worth it. Farmers email me regularly about how sweet the payoff is after sticking with it through the hard building stages. "The mindset work we do building farms is the hardest work you'll ever do in your life, but it's THE KEY to creating a farm business that serves YOU and your family... instead of a beast that eats you alive." The quote above is from 5X Your Farm Sales farmer who's coached with me for 6 Years. Give it all the time it takes THIS episode of the Profitable Mindset will teach you to stay with it instead of give up. Only then, if you stay in the challenging phase and actually move through it, will you get the reward of having built your profitable farm. Let's do it! Charlotte

  • #198: The #1 Thing to Focus On This Year to Get Your Farm Profitable
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training The biggest challenge that drives farmers out of business most often... ...is that you're NOT focusing your most valuable resources on the right thing. And big surprise - your most valuable resource is NOT money. Why not? Because you don't have a lot of that on a farm! I address how and what to focus on in a short 11-minute episode today on the Profitable Mindset Podcast. >>Click HERE for Episode 198, How to Focus the Right Resources on the Right Products It's okay that money's tight. Because when you learn the skill of focusing the right resources on the right one thing, you'll get to success. How do I know this? I have 300 farmers in my coaching program doing this one thing. And it's working. Money follows. Week after week, farmers report they focus on their one product or their one sales outlet, EVEN IF they've diversified. You'll want to watch the video on this page, too. It underscores just how important focusing your resources is. Click HERE for the audio and video of Episode 198. Warmly, Charlotte

  • #197: Six Steps to Raise Your Prices Without Losing Customers
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training I've never met a farmer who I thought their prices were too high and my advice was to lower them. Never. And that's in 12 years of working with farmers to get profitable. So - chances are, your prices are not covering all your costs including a living wage for you or your employee and ON TOP OF THAT a generous 35-40% profit margin. But when faced with raising your prices to that amount, I know what happens next… …cue the fear and guilt. Doubt. Anxiety. I hear this on repeat from farmers across the country. "but I feel bad I have to charge so much!" "I'm nervous - I can't afford to lose customers!" "I just need to become more efficient and save money elsewhere so I can keep the prices low." In episode 197, I outline the proven steps I use and now teach to my clients that allow you to increase your prices with confidence. If you don't learn the skill of raising your prices, you'll do your farm in. I see this over and over - farmers who'd rather suffer the pain of loss from giving up vs. the pain of learning to do something new. It's going to hurt either way - the stress of financial hemorrhaging until you quit. Or, the pain of learning to do the hard thing in the way I teach until, with practice, it gets easy. Every new skill is painful and challenging at first. But the payoff from that pain is so much better than the payoff of quitting and losing your dream. When you follow these steps, you'll shift to feeling empowered and confident and the fear and guilt will ease. Your customers WANT to pay you what you need to stay in business when you market the way I teach in 5X Your Farm Sales. Today's episode will help you feel confident you now have a process for raising your prices. Let's get you on the path to a sustainable, profitable farm!

  • #196: How to Handle the Uncertainty of Farm Life With Calm Instead of Anxiety
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training I don't have to tell you this: Building a farm is so much more than deciding what to raise and then selling it. It's an emotional experience - full of: Doubt, anxiety, stress, worry, confusion, guilt, and so many more emotions. So one of the most important skills you'll need to learn if you want to last long-term is how to manage for these emotions that will make you want to shut down. Not how to suppress them. Or ignore them. Or pretend they're not there. But you'll need to learn how to contend with these not-so-feel-good-emotions. Today on the Profitable Mindset podcast, we tackle one of them - I teach you how to manage for anxiety when things are so uncertain in life. If you want to experience freedom, prosperity, and happiness on your farm and in life, I'm going to hand you the formula that works for farmers daily inside my coaching program. This is a proven playbook for managing your anxiety. Stressed and anxious about the uncertainty of life and farm? I got you. We're in this together. Warm Hugs, Charlotte

  • #195: How to Stop Self-Sabotage
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training This week, a farmer requested my coaching after living in anxiety for two weeks, looping on thoughts. She was beating herself up for having said 'no' to a request. Even though she felt good about it in the moment, later she felt guilty! >>Hear the Solution to Self-Sabotage in Episode 195 I'm certain she's not alone. So many of you tell me you struggle with looping thoughts, keeping you up at night. Or haunting the back of your mind during the days. Please know - that you don't have to live with looping thoughts - we cleared it up in our 30-minute coaching session. Plus, she now has the skill of preventing it in the future. Self-sabotage shows up in many ways - and many farmers aren't even aware - they're so used to living with it. But this bad habit keeps you stuck, not moving forward, not reaching your goals. Self-sabotage sucks up so much of your time. It also impacts your mental health. Awareness is the first step since you can't fix what you're unaware of. Today on the podcast, I will show you how to recognize it first, and then I give you the simple fix. >>Listen NOW to finally stop looping on thoughts keeping you stuck. Warmly, Charlotte

  • #194: How and Why It's Crucial to Get Yourself on Your Farm's Payroll
Click HERE to Reinvent Your Marketing - Free Training April 22nd Many farms run on the free labor of women. To be fair, men aren't immune, either. When was the last time you got a paycheck from your farm? >>Tune into How and Why It's Crucial to Pay Yourself on your Farm Working for free on the farm was modeled for me growing up. Mom drove truck all day long during wheat and grass seed harvest with us 3 kids bouncing around on the long bench seat (seatbelts were non-existent.) She did the books and the payroll. All for free. Not to mention, mom kept the household going year 'round. She never got a paycheck from the farm. When I started my own farm in 2009, writing myself a check wasn't a priority. But I quickly realized I had to figure out how - it was my sole source of income to pay the mortgage! If I wanted to keep my kids home, I had to learn the skills to pay myself on my farm. Don't just 'hope' you'll get to a point where you get paid someday. "Hope" doesn't write the paychecks. Paying yourself means learning a set of skills, so you manage the finances in a way that gets you a paycheck. Today on the podcast, you'll hear about one farmer's journey from not being paid for the past 8 years to wanting to quit and now learning the skills of paying herself for her work. It's not sustainable to work for free long-term. >>Click HERE to listen to episode 194 and learn to make your farm and life sustainable Farmers learn these money-making skills inside 5X Your Farm Sales. I can't wait to share it with you! Warmly, Charlotte
