Making family films can be an intimidating venture when you’re just starting out, but in today’s episode, Sarah Krieg inspires us with her bold and fearless passion for new experiences.

How do you pair your love of filmmaking with your family sessions? (11:52)
I’m a storyteller, and some parts of the story just can’t be told with just photos. At every session, I just hit the record button once I get the photo, and I get little 1-minute family films of the family authentically engaging, laughing, and being themselves.

Were you trained in branding photography? (15:43)
Gosh no! But I say yes to things, even if they scare me.

Lesson you learned in making family films (20:12)
The biggest mistake is to be so afraid that you never do it. It’s a foreign language when you start. But you have to force yourself to keep trying. Keep learning. Don’t worry about it being perfect.

Advice for overthinking and taking ourselves so seriously (26:04)
Push yourself to grow, but don’t take yourself too seriously. Make a safe space for yourself where you can just create and where it’s ok to make mistakes and for it to be messy.

How do your variety of life experiences guide you in life? (30:17)
It’s a pattern of me saying yes to experiences. I’m not a planner, but I trust if I fail I will fall back on something else.

In your busy lifestyle, how do you get it all done? (34:05)
I just accept that my family life can be a mess at times. It is what it is.

What do you wish you knew when just starting out? (38:32)
I wish I knew that I didn’t have to be someone else, and that I bring something unique to the table.

What is the most fun project you’ve worked on? (40:11)
Just recently I shot music video for Peanut Butter Jams, a kids’ band, because they saw my stop-motion work with my son. I love when people want to collaborate and build on something that I had done. I also love all my personal projects.
