Australian Agenda contributor Levent Efe told SBS Turkish that the failure of Australian banks to pass on RBA interest rate cuts to consumers was creating a huge government backlash at a time when the economy needed increased consumption. Efe said one way to boost the economy was to increase social spending, which is the last thing the budget deficit-averse government will do.

Locals say they’re desperate for a better water management plan, as the federal government sets aside an additional $300,000 to help states manage extreme fish kills during the summer months.

The federal emergency response plan for fish kills has just been made public, and includes money reallocated from the Emergency Contingency Fund.

ABC chairwoman Ita Buttrose  says 'Much of the media is white and we're not all white.'  We talked with reporter Sumeyye İlanbey from The Age about ethnic diversity in Australian media. İlanbey said there was significant room for improvement for multiculturalism in Australian media.

For the past two years, Settlement Services Australia and the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) have cooperated to hold the SSI Diversity in Music Award. Singer, songwriter Behiye Suren was one of the six attendees of this year’s event. Speaking to SBS Turkish, she said the aim of the event is to empower women artists through collaboration and cooperation. Rather than wasting their energies on competing with each other or against men, women artists should be focused on making art, said Suren and commended the organisers of the SSI Diversity in Music Awards by facilitating such a process.

Suren said the musicians she came across during the two-day program were all trailblazers, in that they were all trying to find ways to produce original music inspired by their roots and Australia while reaching the audience. "Future generations will follow the tracks we are now laying out," she said.

Settlement Services Australia ve Australian Women in Music Awards’un işbirligiyle geçen hafta Brisbane’da düzenlenen iki günlük bir etkinliğe, toplum bireylerimizden, müzisyen, besteci ve şarkıcı Behiye Süren de katıldı.

Behiye Süren, SBS Türkçeyle yaptığı röportajda, etkinliğin kendisi için ne kadar yararlı olduğunu anlattı.

İki yıldır yapılan bu etkinlikte amaç, tüm dünyada olduğu gibi Avustralya muzik sektöründe kadın varlığının son derece sınırlı olmasına karşı bazı önlemler almak. Hedef, müzik sektöründeki kadınların birbiriyle veya erkeklerle rekabet etmemesi, işbirliği yapması ve bu şekilde birbirlerini desteklemeleri. Günün sonunda amaç, engelleri kaldırarak, kadınların sanat yapmaya odaklanması.

Süren, kendi kökleri ve Avustralya’yı harmanlayan SSI Diversity in Music Awards katılımcılarının, kendileri için bir yer açmaya çalışırken aslında gelecek nesiller için fırsatlar yarattığını söyledi.
