Shifting the Way We Approach Exercise with Michael Ulloa

Listen Later

Tigger Warning: Discussion of weight loss, fad diets, and suicide.

Anna Mackay and Elizabeth Davenport chat with Michael Ulloa, a personal trainer working to shift the conversation around exercise, and breaking down barriers to health & fitness, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

They discuss:

  • Whether personal trainers and kids sports coaches are qualified to provide nutritional or dietary advice.
  • What makes someone qualified to provide dietary advice.
  • The risks of using social media as a resource for dietary advice, and how social media can sometimes be helpful (Michael’s IG account is amazing!)
  • Key things to look for when hiring a personal trainer and red flags that might be a clue for steering clear of a coach or trainer.
  • Some of the most common myths created by the wellness industry.
  • Strategies people can use to avoid wellness traps.
