In today’s episode Lynn talks to physical therapist, professor, APTA board member, and national speaker, Dr. Carrie Pagliano, about the similarities of the postnatal time frame and perimenopause.

During pregnancy, women experience the highest levels of estrogen they will ever have in their lifetime. In the past, a misinterpretation of research concluded that high estrogen levels correlated to breast cancer; however, this correlation has been disproven and high estrogen levels may be a positive thing. 

For women in postpartum and perimenopause, estrogen levels plummet potentially leading to symptoms of new anxiety, vaginal dryness, joint pain and waking when they have the opportunity to sleep. The research now is showing that estrogen treatments may be helpful in leveling off these symptoms and helping with postpartum depression.
