In this week’s Quicky, we dive into how a world where control and expectation often dictate our emotions, the ‘Let Them’ theory offers a refreshing perspective: just let people be who they are. Coined and popularised by Mel Robbins, this concept revolves around the idea that instead of resisting others’ actions or trying to change them, we should allow people to do what they want – and, in turn, free ourselves from unnecessary stress and frustration.
At its core, the ‘Let Them’ theory is about relinquishing control. It suggests that when people make choices – whether they choose to invite us to an event, return our calls, support our goals, or behave in ways we don’t agree with – we should simply let them. Their actions reflect them, not us. Our job is not to change or convince them but to observe and act accordingly.
This is an interesting way to give yourself permission to let the things go that do not serve you. And to lean into what actually does give you the freedom to be you.
