  • Sneaky Dragon Episode 296

Hola, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 296 of the no awards-winning podcast Sneaky Dragon. This week on the show, Ian and Dave start with a surprising revelation; think there are too many episodes; ask, “Is it a dagger I see before me?”; find themselves in stitches; play the cancer card; discuss the films of Les Blank; consider fighting themselves; eat some licorice shoes; dream up the best scene ever; choose favourite silent film comedians; discuss an oddball Harold Lloyd film; start the search for the football movie director; fear untethering themselves from their lives; change over the course of their lives; agree relationships are tough; have a big announcement; remember bad animated movies; and, finally, airline travel…amirite?
    Thanks for listening.
Please make our show better! We need your free content because ours stinks. Also, come and eat with us!

    * Have some dinner with Ian and Dave, and, if you want, watch Sneaky Dragon being recorded. All you have to do is send us a little message that says, “I’d like to eat with you!” and Ian and Dave will treat you to an after-show meal at their favourite White Spot.
    * Send us your story. That’s right. Just your story. If you need a prompt, Ian suggested “your secret origin” and Dave suggested “how how you found Sneaky Dragon” Please record a two to three minute story and send it to us via email ([email protected]) or our Facebook page. Or Skype Sneaky Dragon and leave a message on our voicemail. David will add a playlist for your story as well.

Dave was wrong that Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe was short. It’s actually an hour long, but Herzog is such an interesting character that it just flies by, I guess. Anyway, it’s not available on YouTube, but here’s a little taste:

Once again, Blank’s The Maestro: King of the Cowboy Artists is not available on YouTube (and why should it be, quite frankly), but here is a little teaser:

Finally, here is the trailer for Blank’s Burden of Dreams:

  • Sneaky Dragon Episode 295

Ciao, Sneakers! This week on Episode 295 of Sneaky Dragon, Ian and Dave drink some weird water; do some hard-hitting political satire; discover Kryptonian justice was old-style; open some gifts; review Valerian; agree that promoting sci-fi is hard; bathe in movie bathos; give a shout out to a listener; get scared of chickens; hire a crow; visit the San Diego Comicon; fan out over Twin Peaks; and, finally, win some hearts and minds.
    Thanks for listening.
As always, our apparently endless contests continue apace:

Dave mentioned a couple of YouTube videos. The first one, a comparison of similarities between Star Wars and Valerian and Laureline:

And a video essay about the overuse of bathos in movies – and also some praise for Wonder Woman that makes me want to see it again:

  • Sneaky Dragon Episode 294

Hola, Sneakers! Welcome to Episode 294 of Sneaky Dragon. The countdown to Episode 297 continues!!! (Ian hates that joke.)
This week on Sneaky Dragon: crossing the border worries; going to comic conventions; Dave pooh-poohs his professionalism; we could be in alternate dimensions; more then you wanted to know about The Heavenly Kid; Dave finds Atomic Blonde mysterious; the importance of writing voices; more than you wanted to know about Castlevania; movies without endings; Ian is mad about the Han Solo movie; Dave defends and condemns new Star Wars films; Dave gets enthusiastic about Jane Austen; Ian would like fewer backstories, Hollywood; Ian is amazed to discover Pinocchio in Outer Space; Dave has thoughts about Captain Hook; and, finally, they end the show with a little game based on Canaan Grall’s alternative Pictionary cards.
    Thanks for listening!
Don’t forget we would like to hear from our funny and talented listeners. It’s easy!

So Gary Coleman was not in The Heavenly Kid. He was in The Kid with the Broken Halo. Believe it or not, there was no trailer for the film on YouTube, but here is some sort of compilation of moments from the film:

Another fan-made trailer: this time for Pinocchio in Outer Space!

    And Ian is over Castlevania:

Is it suspicious when almost forty seconds of your 96 second trailer is just someone loading a game into a a game console?

  • Sneaky Dragon Episode 293

Ciao, Sneakers! Welcome to the greatest podcast that has ever existed in the history of the Internet!!!!!!!! (And people say we’re bad at self-promotion.) This week on the show, Ian and Dave are still hot (temperature-wise); more amusing Coke slogans; a visit with the Krispies family; playing with sore losers; celebrating drug awareness; a tribute to Underdog; getting rid of the siren game; a mysterious moustache box; making mix tapes; Dave’s indifference to lyrics; Ian’s indifference to poetry; we have no standards; too much Cliffhanger; hit songs in a foreign language (Where did they go?); some light spoiler-free Spider-man talk; a problem with superhero movies; a passionate, slightly spoiler-y defense of Baby Driver; a passionate, coherent-free defense of Hudson Hawk; remembering cassettes; a passionate defense of album tracks; a big recommendation for Kliph Nesteroff’s Vice show Funny How?; let’s pooh-pooh Christian comedy; let’s just pooh-pooh Christians; and, finally, Ian and Dave’s big money-making idea.

I still think the computer cleaning idea could be a big seller…

We didn’t mention it on the show, but the Cliffhanger trailer was also way better than the movie:

    Oh, Hudson Hawk. Yo crazy.

This week on the show, Ian and Dave talk driving and bad driving; give some old movie spoilers; rank best Snoopy characters; discuss Peanuts-related songs; ineptly guess at copyright law; watch Dave’s YouTube debut; do a bit of Beatles; go to the death disco; live through a different time; realize podcasts are bad for passwords; Ian re-experiences puberty; Dave gets jerk karma; they go all Neil Sedaka trivia (that’s different!); Ian goes commercial; he also takes a bite out of crime; Ian and Dave discuss the new Wonder Woman film in some detail (WARNING: SPOILERS from 55:00 to 1:35:00); and, finally, they get all serious and deep discussing social anxiety, their coping strategies and developing resilience.

    Department of Corections:

Dave was wrong with his Neil Sedaka trivia: Sedaka recorded two albums with the not-quite-yet 10CC – Solitaire and The Tra-La Days Are Over. Neither album contained the hit “Bad Blood” (featuring Elton John on backing vocals), which David conflated with the Elton John song “The Bitch Is Back”.
Please accept our apologies. David has been made to listen to “Calendar Girl” one hundred times.
If you have never heard “Bad Blood”, it’s pretty good:

Here is that execrable Snoopy song:

There were three more Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron songs, but I will only post one more because none of them are very good:

I watched this carefully. I can’t see what Ian is talking about…

    And here is Dave’s interview:
