SOFREP Radio

Guest host Alex Hollings tells the harrowing story of the Andree Expedition -- a small group of explorers that died in 1897 while attempting to be the first men to reach the North Pole. Hollings, a Marine veteran and journalist, offers a scripted account of their story while discussing his unique perspective on heroism. According to Hollings, success isn’t a prerequisite for admiration and respect -- heroism is about having the will to try. Heroism, as Hollings points out, has more to do with intent and effort than outcome. A fool can luck into victory, and a hero can fall short of his goals. He served with the Royal Hampshires, passed through Commando and Parachute Regiment selection, before being badged with 22 SAS. He left the British Army in his early thirties, with the rank of Staff Sergeant, and started working on the private military circuit. He lives in Southampton with his partner, Wendy, and three children. He is a fluent Spanish speaker and continues to work as an operator on the private military circuit. Phil’s first book, Born Fearless: From SAS to Mercenary to Pirate Hunter – My Life as a Shadow Warrior, was published by Quercus in September 2011. His first novel, Desert Fire, following the exploits of ex-SAS operative Steve Range, was published by Quercus in September 2012, and the second in the Blackstone Six series, Killing Range, followed in May 2013. Phil’s most recent book, Big Phil Campion’s Real World SAS Survival Guide, was published by Quercus in May 2014. He also gets into some everday carry (EDC) options for citizens of the UK in case they find themselves in a bad situation, such as a terrorist attack. Finally, he discusses the topic of where European citizens can access gun ranges and training since they're quite limited on options. It's a unique look at utilizing what is available to prepared citizens on that side of the pond. Journalist Alex Hollings steps up to the plate as guest host for this unusual episode of SOFREP Radio. Hollings may allow room for the idea that not all UFO sightings can be explained away, but he’s not ready to welcome our new alien overlords quite yet. In this episode, Hollings breaks down how military aircraft are commonly mistaken for something otherworldly and delves into upcoming and classified defense initiatitives that could explain away some of the most pressing UFO sightings. ET may be out there, but Hollings doesn’t allow for any shortcuts in the search. His latest movie The Last Full Measure is scheduled for release on October 25, 2019 and features a star cast including Sebastian Stan, Christopher Plummer, Samuel L. Jackson, William Hurt, Ed Harris, Peter Fonda, John Savage and Jeremy Irvine. Unlike any film from the war genre, it focuses on the herioc true story of Air Force special operations during the Vietnam War. There is very little about this topic in writing or on film, so you won't want to miss this incredible story, which recounts the true story of William Pitsenbarger, a U.S. Air Force Pararescueman, who continually faced danger throughout more than 250 combat missions in Vietnam. During a rescue mission on April 11, 1966, he was offered the chance to escape on the last helicopter out of a combat zone, heavily under fire, but he stayed behind to save and defend the lives of his fellow soldiers of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division, and he was killed. In addition to describing the details and structure of the film, Todd and SOFREP Radio host, Brandon Webb, discuss their shared passion for flying airplanes plus much more. With Independence Day on Thursday, Jack and Dennis felt there was no better episode than this one to show off some patriotism.  Jack gives a break down on his article about the battle of New York and how George Washington the General had to use his creativity to win the war despite losing many battles along the way.  The guys also discuss how the founding fathers were a cast of characters who were flawed men, why whitewashing American history is a terrible idea, how students were taught about Native Americans growing up, understanding the ugly underbelly of early America.  They also discuss the oldest bars in NYC and suggest that all fireworks be handled by professionals. Two guests joined the podcast this episode, first up is Joe Lafave.  As a journalist for Newsrep , Joe has plenty of great articles, but he came on to discuss an article he wrote for The Journal in West Virginia.  The piece described how officials from the Angolan Ministry of Former Combatants and Veterans traveled to a town in West Virginia to learn about a statewide initiative called Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture.  The program looks to inform & teach veterans how to run & monetize successful small businesses, in this case raising bees and making honey.  Check out all of Joe's writing for Newrep and follow him on Twitter @LafaveJoseph. Josh Lees joined the show to let people know about the reopening of American Legion Post #107 in Hoboken, NJ.  After Hurricane Sandy destroyed the building, money was raised to erect a new 5 story building.  Floors three, four, and five in the new building will be dedicated to homeless veterans.  The second floor is a brand new bar equipped with a sequoia bartop made from veterans.  The second phase looking to be completed sometime next year will provide additional housing for more homeless veterans.  The ceremony for the reopening takes place Monday July 8th.  Be sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcast, let us know what you think of the show and purchase Jack's book "Murphy's Law" where you can find wherever books are sold.

Former Ranger & friend of Jack's, Myles Grantham joins the podcast to share his unique experience using psychedelics and how it's helped him.  After hearing former SEAL, Jeff Nichols, speak about his use of psychedelics to help his mental clarity, Myles wanted to speak with SOFREP and further the conversation of helping veterans heal using psychedelics.  He shares how he went from a straight edge to using psychedelics, how he was able to find coaches & shamans in the jungle, the experience of using ibogaine, being able to heal using triggers you have within, coming back to the states after "seeing the light," & explaining how different psychedelics cause different responses.  Myles also shares what it was like to see a "higher being" and tries to explain his visions without giving too much away for those interesting in attempting psychedelics as a healing tactic.  He shares how the government is looking to get involved because of the potential monetary windfall a successful psychedelic operation could become. Myles credits Being True to You & Heroic Hearts Project with helping him in this journey, be sure to listen to his podcast, Transhuman Broadcast, you can also follow the podcast's Twitter @the_transhuman and Instagram page @transhumanbroadcast.  Don't forget to leave us a review on Apple Podcast, let us know what you think of the show and purchase Jack's book "Murphy's Law" where you can find wherever books are sold.

Joe Goldberg, former CIA agent joins the program for a great conversation about his time working in the CIA.  Joe talks about starting off as a "video librarian" in the 80's, how he gathered open sourced information before the internet took off, how the 24 hour news cycle has changed the world we live in today.  He explains how his job was to create messages to tell the truth in their own way, how they managed to attract viewers to their messages, using music to help spread awareness, how they tried to prevent blowback against America when creating these videos, his thoughts on the 2016 election regarding Russia's involvement, the naivety of the American public in regards to influence outside of America, and how to create a headline that "sticks."  Joe also shares why he decided to write historical fiction novels.  Be sure to read Joe's novels wherever books are sold. Jack & Dennis open the show with a reader email regarding the bad wrap some units get because of their alleged actions.  Jack shares his thoughts on why the SEALs specifically seem to receive the majority of this backlash and why he feels that is.  Jack's daughter joins the guys in studio to explain the toy she received for a successful school year.  Be sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcast, let us know what you think of the show and purchase Jack's book "Murphy's Law" where you can find wherever books are sold.
