How hot is hemp (marijuana for our American friends)? Is there anything this magical plant can't do??? Today Mason and founder of Hemple - Cade Turland - talk about the biological hard-wiring we humans have towards receiving the magical properties of hemp. In particular, it is the fat profile of hemp, that make this very nurturing plant so health-promoting. The guys end up in esoteric discussions, reflecting on life truths and how to live a life based on integrity and authenticity. It's no wonder that the pharmaceutical industry is heavily investing in hemp research, it being a hugely sustainable botanical. Cade talks about the 120 cannabinoids and their interaction with the bodily receptors. This one you won't want to miss!
The guys discuss:
-The essential fatty acid (lipid) profile of hemp is outstanding, the ratio is the perfect Omega 3 to Omega 6 1:3
-Hemp seed (oil in particular) can really improve skin issues like eczema, as it essentially turns down the inflammatory response
-With 25% of your daily zinc requirements, hemp protein is potent for hormonal health and a robust immune system
-The slightly nutty flavour profile of the hemp protein and hemp seeds, means it can contribute to ANY dish
-Hemp has phytoremediation properties - it detoxifies the soil, it pulls radiation and toxins (like pesticides) from the soil
-Humans have an endocannabinoid system, a biological system perfectly aligned to receiving cannabinoids
-Is the grandfather of cannabinoids, CBG, the new and improved CBD?
Who is Cade Turland?
Food is in Cade Turland's, blood. With a dairy farming background, growing up in Bowral NSW, Cade and his foodie family have always appreciated seasonal food and the farms on which it's grown. Cade developed an interest in hemp, seeing an opportunity to introduce Australians to the versatile superfood, with a host of health benefits including highly bioavailable edestin protein, plus a positive environmental profile. Cade is the founder of Hemple.

Gut Health Part 2 is here! If you haven't already listened to last week's Part 1 episode, we suggest you drop in now and have a listen. The guys pick up where they left off, diving deep into the energetics of the digestive system and referencing the ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy. Probiotics and prebiotics are discussed in great detail and the role they play with chronic disease manifestations, like leaky gut. Dan (The Functional Naturopath) brings his clinical observations to the table with real-life client experiences.
The guys discuss:
-100% alkaline everything is NOT health promoting, sometimes acidity is beneficial
-The Spleen is connected to the whole digestive system, think of it as the digestive fire
-Spleen deficiencies generally call for dietary adjustments and stress management
-Dampness can arise from depleting kidney essence (excessive amounts of cold, raw foods and fasting)
-What diet is sustainable for decades, what flows naturally for you?
-Extreme dietary regimes generally result in exhaustion and depletion
-High fat diets require more bile; some inflammatory gut species eat bile, this paired with leaky gut leads to a surge in systemic inflammation (endotoxemia)
-Prebiotic fibre feed the beneficial native bacteria, don't forget PREbiotics!
-Prebiotics: garlic, onion, asparagus, cooled rice and potato
-Kidney essence relies heavily on healthy microbiome
-Poor spleen function has emotional connections to: excessive worry, inability to tend for yourself, complaining a lot, needing gratification
-How medicinal mushies contain gut-boosting constituents
-What is Phase III of liver detoxification and how we can support it
-How candida is opportunistic and how to lower excess levels
-Medicinal mushies (unlike culinary mushrooms) help with fungal issues
-We are built for walking, walk more for healthy waste excretion
-Physical manipulation can really benefit a sluggish / toxic digestion
