Data is the raw material that makes effective operations possible and determines the growth trajectory a company will follow. That said, the challenges of managing that data are significant – starting with where the data is stored and how it is accessed. If that data remains segmented, it will be impossible to get a full, clear picture of the business.
Supply Chain Now’s Scott Luton and Greg White recently welcomed Greg Cornette, Director of Corporate Logistics for Flair Packaging, Shannon Vaillancourt, President of RateLinx, and Nate Endicott, SVP of Global Sales, Marketing & Partnerships at RateLinx, to discuss several use cases that illustrate the process of getting and the value of having accurate, complete, and timely data.
In this episode, created in collaboration with a Supply Chain Now livestream audience, Greg, Shannon, and Nate discuss:
• What integrated data means and why it is so crucial to fast, accurate decision making
• Ways that integrated data goes beyond improved decision making to support overall accountability
• The reality that business is not going back to the way it worked before the pandemic, and the technological support that will be required to thrive going forward

The whole world has experienced unprecedented disruption over the last couple of years, but none of it – not the supply shocks, not the port congestion, not the health concerns – comes close to the conditions experienced by the citizens of Ukraine. Some have left the country while family members remain to fight or attempt to carry on. Entrepreneurs find themselves in a precarious position, trying to preserve their businesses against an extraordinary backdrop.
Maryna Trepova is a career procurement professional, the CEO and Founder of IPSM. Earlier this year she left Kyiv with her son to escape the conflict. She is now running her procurement consulting business from Portugal, all the while working to stay in contact with family and friends still in Ukraine.
In this episode of Supply Chain Now, Maryna joins Scott Luton and Kelly Barner to share her perspective on:
• The war in Ukraine, how it has affected her life, family, and work
• How she has learned to build trust with various stakeholder groups and use it as a foundation for creating procurement value
• The importance of having actual relationships with suppliers, not just performance metrics positioned as relationships buy the buy-side organization

When Jules Weldon took her father’s patented design for a beach caddy and quickly lined up a business partner, contract manufacturer, and co-owner, success seemed like it would come quickly. As happens so many times in business, however, the dream quickly turned into a nightmare. But true entrepreneurs know when to pivot, and there was a whole new journey just beginning.
Jules Weldon and Stacey Pierce are the Co-Founders & Co-CEOs at OME Gear, a female-founded and led outdoor gear company based in South Carolina. They took the best of the beach caddy and built up from there. The result was the award-winning Wanderr, a 5-in-1 convertible cart, chair, and cot.
In this episode of Supply Chain Now, Jules and Stacey sit down Scott Luton and Kevin L. Jackson talk about:
• Their learnings about product design, marketing, and contract manufacturing - what to do and what not to do
• The tough path they have walked as entrepreneurs, discovering who are the right people to work with and who will take advantage of you
• The door-opening power of having the right title and the right experience

In 2021, U.S. Bank processed $37 billion in freight payments for some of the world’s largest corporations and government agencies. Those payments and the data that accompanies them are analyzed quarterly by Bobby Holland, U.S. Bank vice president and director of Freight Data Solutions and his team. The FPI report includes quarter over quarter, year over year, and full year data and analysis.
According to a summary released by U.S. Bank, “Truck freight spending was up 27.5% year-over-year and 1.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. This marked the fourth consecutive quarter that spending increased for shippers, keeping the total measure at the highest recording in the history of the index.”
In this interview, Bobby is joined by Cathy Morrow-Roberson with Logistics Trends & Insights LLC, to share the results of the on the Q1 2022 report with Supply Chain Now Co-hosts Greg White and Scott Luton, interpreting what they may mean for the economy and the shipping industry in the short and longer term.
• The expected ‘dip’ observed in Q1 2022 wasn’t as steel as it could have been, especially given a confluence of supply chain disruptions
• Which regions were hit hardest by the spike of COVID-19 in the first quarter of the year
• The mode shifting observed that may have directed volume away from truckload and less than truckload freight

2022 will be a year of change for shippers. Labor shortages are causing the carriers to struggle to meet capacity demands. Meanwhile, consumer demand for sustainable practices is on the rise. Carriers have always taken a sophisticated approach to determining pricing and routing freight, but the disruptions of the last two years are forcing them to completely recreate their projections – even as labor shortages and spikes in demand for capacity make it hard to establish a baseline.
Caleb Nelson is the Chief Growth Officer at Sifted, a logistics intelligence platform that helps parcel shippers leverage their data to implement the changes necessary in this ever-shifting market.
In this interview, Caleb simplifies the complexity of shipping costs with co-hosts Scott Luton, Greg White, and a Supply Chain Now livestream audience:
• The multitude of challenges being caused by shortages of labor and capacity, how companies are responding, and whether it is jeopardizing their profitability
• The growing pains being felt as companies scramble to build new projections after the disruption of COVID-19
• What all these pressures in combination are going to do to peak seasons – for shippers and carriers
