  • Supply Chain Now Live: Digital Strategies to Optimize the Customer Experience

Teams of all sizes are focused on providing the best experience they can for their customers, and they can’t do that today without investing in a specific digital experience. While many people have the technical skills to build a basic website, that is not the same as crafting a digital experience, a completely different approach that increases engagement and forms lasting bonds.

Zahir Palanpur and Stacey Warthen both work for Azul Arc, a digital product development and design company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Zahir is their CEO and Stacey is their VP of Design and Product Management. They emphasize the need to join each client on process of discovery, the goal of which is to better understand their user base before architecting a solution to meet their needs and interests.

In this conversation, Scott and Karin go on their own discovery journey with Zahir and Stacey to learn more about how to connect business objectives with digital user experiences:

    • How they help customers visualize the opportunity associated with a redesigned digital customer or user experience

    • The tools they use to capture how users actually interact with content and interfaces rather than just relying on selective reported feedback

    • Knowing where to invest scarce creative energy so that the team gets the greatest ROI back from their redesign effort

  • Moving Us All Forward: April Coolidge, Award-Winning Truck Driver with WalMart

When we think about logistics and supply chain, the first things that come to mind may be tractors and trailers, warehouses, and automation. But what really makes the supply chain possible are people; drivers who spend much of their life on the road away from friends and family so the rest of us get what we need when we go to the store. Beyond being absolutely invaluable to companies and the economy as whole, these drivers are in demand as shortages plague carriers of all types.

April Coolidge is a Professional Truck Driver with the Walmart Corporation. She recently received a special award – she was recognized by Walmart and PepsiCo as an Everyday Hero. She was also appointed to the American Trucking Associations’ 2019–20 America’s Road Team, being selected as 1 of 18 team members out of 3,600 qualified candidates.

In this conversation, Scott and Greg have the opportunity to talk to April and get a driver’s point of view on a number of supply chain topics:

    • The number one thing companies can do to both retain their current drivers and recruit young new drivers to join their team

    • What the drivers of passenger vehicles need to remember when they are sharing the road with a tractor trailer

    • Some of the ‘courtesy signals’ that drivers of all vehicles can use to communicate and manage safe lane changes on congested highways

  • Supply Chain Now & UPS Present: Will Ocean Freight Sink Holiday Shopping?

UPS may be known for their fleet of brown trucks but make no mistake – those trucks cover the last mile in a huge global logistics network. With 50 years of freight forwarding experience and service in over 1,600 countries, UPS is a formidable player in the global ocean freight landscape. As conditions change daily, shippers are weighing their options and re-examining the relative advantages of air and ocean freight.

Steve McMichael is the Vice President of UPS Ocean freight. Even though he’s been in the field for his entire career and has been based all over the world, economically speaking, he has never seen anything like the ocean freight conditions we are observing right now. Ports are congested, rail is congested, and driver shortages persist. How should shippers and consumers adjust their plans?

In this conversation, Scott and Greg get the latest observations and recommendations from Steve based on his unique perspective:

    • How companies can work with their suppliers to manage purchase orders so that products and materials arrive on time, no matter how far they have to travel

    • How the rate of returning containers to China is causing backups in distribution and potentially even affecting the holiday shopping season

    • The critical need for ocean carriers to get better at forecasting minimum quantity commitments and lead times so shippers can make more informed decisions about freight
