I work with a lot of people in corporate America and I'm beginning to notice a pattern, one where many people are feeling a lack of agency, both at work and in their personal lives. These people feel like what they do is inconsequential and feel stuck—they're disempowered and disengaged. There's this idea that leadership and positive change has to come from the "top" but it isn't true. Any of us can lead, any of us can make a difference from any position or place of power. Whether you realize it or not, your beliefs and actions affect the people around you, so it's up to you whether you want to be influencing people positively or negatively. Leadership doesn't start from the top—it starts with you.

There's a phenomena that occurs whenever we learn something new, where once we've learned something, we can't un-know it. Not only that, but we have a hard time remember what it felt like not to know it at all. As coaches and leaders, this leads us to a big problem—we need this knowledge and expertise to help our clients, but we can't always get our message across in a way that lasts. If you want to impact your clients' behavior in a meaningful way, you have to speak their language and understand how to communicate your ideas so they actually stick.
