Eva Thornton is an extraordinary woman and warrior! She is an example of resilience and athleticism as a way of life! A high level gymnast in her youth, a pole vaulter, sprint kayaker and lastly a CrossFit Games Masters athlete, competing at 3 CF Games, winning the 50-54division in 2018, she has had a number of significant challenges to her health over the past few years: holding her back from repeat appearances at the CF Games: Eva had back surgery in 2019 after being diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the spine at the end of 2018. Unfortunately the treatment she was put on initially wasn’t as effective as it needed to be and she ended up with complications. There were also major complications during surgery (ruptured aorta resulting in significant blood loss etc). It was a big mess trying to come back. Eva ended up with a 5-level fusion in her T-spine and a big stent in the aorta. In 2021 she had the fusion (metal work) removed. Then more recently she had a herniated disc in her neck which caused problems with the exiting nerve at C6/7 leading to weakness in the right arm. She had a disc replacement surgery just over 5 weeks ago.
