"It's up to us what pace we wanna keep."
If you've had a health challenge hit you sideways and seem to take over your life, this conversation is for you. I got to talk with Dawnmarie about her experience of getting MS (multiple sclerosis) and the choices she has made since then to live fully.
Personal health battles and emotional struggles were the fuel for Dawnmarie Deshaies to start the global wellness brand Dawnmariehealthyandfit, LLC. For decades she has lived with and suffered from a chronic autoimmune disease that impacted her life in many different ways - Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system, essentially the brain and spinal cord.
Through her journey of learning about the disease, personal self-care and finding well-being, an idea was sparked that would allow Dawnmarie to share with others the experience to health, self-care, mindfulness, restoration and positivity. By helping others heal and paying it forward, this has in turn helped to foster her own continual healing. Dawnmarie Deshaies has gathered her leading wellness allies and experts to create a multi-dimensional program that approaches every aspect of real well-being: mindfulness, nutrition, fitness, self-love and positivity.
Dawnmarie shares her story with authenticity and relatability that I love. She is an incredible example of facing some of the hardest parts of life and choosing the very best.

He hosts a daily local show in Miami's 107.5 FM Amor, also hosts Intimo, a syndicated show where listeners share their most personal stories, and is also a television contributor for Univision.
His followers on social media have reached a ground breaking 1.6 million and growing. In 2012-2014, he was named one of Radio Ink Magazine's Rising Stars as well as Monitor Latino's Radio Personality of the Year in the U.S., respectively.

"Relying on willpower alone is like bringing a pool noodle to a sword fight."
This episode of True Grit and Grace is special because it focuses on something we all deal with: food and our health. No matter what your personal situation is, Robby is someone who can open your mind to how you can gain optimal health.
Robby Barbaro, MPH is a Type 1 diabetic who has successfully helped thousands prevent, navigate and reverse diabetes of all kinds through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. He, along with co-author Cyrus Khambatta, PhD, have a NY Times bestseller "Mastering Diabetes," and have put the current medical dogma of "low carb and high fat" diet to the test.
Robby graduated from the University of Florida and is the cofounder of Mastering Diabetes and Amla Green. He worked at Forks Over Knives for six years before turning his attention in 2016 to coaching people with diabetes full time. Robby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 12 and has been living this lifestyle since 2006. He is making waves in the news with shocking truths about carbs and diabetes. While eating pounds of fruit every day, his HbA1c value has never exceeded 6.4%, and his blood glucose has been stable and easy to manage.
He is the co-host of the annual Mastering Diabetes Online Summit, a featured speaker at Whole Foods Global Headquarters, VegFest LA, Plant-Stock, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, and has been featured on Forks Over Knives, Healthline, Medical Medium, Vice, Thrive Magazine, Diet Fiction, Thrive Global, BestLife and the wildly popular podcasts Plant Proof and Nutrition Rounds. Cyrus and Robby's book Mastering Diabetes is life-changing!
I love Robby's energy so much and was so uplifted and encouraged by this conversation. Whatever health or mental challenge you are facing, I know you'll be inspired to be your healthiest and make positive changes after listening.

"To have a resilient body, you need a resilient mindset."
If you've ever gone through a devastating breakup, wake-up call, health scare, or loss, you know how hard it can be to love yourself during those times. I am so excited to bring you a conversation with a woman who has been through the worst of this and discovered self-love through the process.
Gabrielle Stone has been acting professionally for years, following in the footsteps of her talented parents, legendary scream queen Dee Wallace, and the late Christopher Stone. As a child she grew up dancing and playing sports. While Stone has always loved acting, she recently began writing and directing. After a shocking revelation in her personal life in 2017, she went on a solo journey to Europe where she discovered how to heal and love herself. She wrote the book Eat, Pray, #FML to share with the women of the world what she so thankfully learned.
Gabrielle's story is so compelling, so relatable, and so empowering. I know you will find new courage to be honest, make changes, and find self-love after listening to her.

Here's what you will learn:
"Alcohol is the doorway, not the solution."
I had a powerful conversation with Omar Pinto on this episode of the podcast where we dive deep into addiction. One way or another, pretty much everyone has experienced what addiction does. And it's not easy to talk about. But this is such an important part of healing and becoming the best versions of ourselves. I loved hearing Omar's perspective on this topic.
Omar Pinto has had to overcome many addictions. Drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, fast food, energy drinks, porn, laziness, complacency and the list goes on and on. There came a moment in his life where he felt completely hopeless. He felt as though he was powerless to change any unhealthy habits and all he wanted to do was find a way to feel better about himself.
10 years into his sobriety, he launched one of the most successful recovery podcasts on iTunes, The SHAIR Podcast with over 2 million downloads and listeners from all over the world. Coaching was the turning point that allowed him to get out of his own way and start becoming the person he was always meant to be. For years he worked on himself: one-on-one coaching, practitioner training, coaching certifications, seminars, workshops, extensive emotional healing work, you name it.
He now specializes in helping people get out of their own way. He helps individuals identify the major pain points in their lives and break free from their past. He has over 15 years' experience in addiction recovery and has combined NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), personal development and emotional healing work to produce fast effective results.
It was powerful to hear Omar talk about navigating healthy boundaries as he healed his own addictions - both with his family, friends, and himself. This is a conversation everyone can benefit from listening to.

"If I change one person's life, they can help other people's lives." That is what Callie Truelove told me during our conversation and she is a living example of this. I got to talk with Callie and her mom Tabitha and I was in tears over the beautiful stories they shared with me.
Callie Truelove is a 16-year-old girl who has Williams syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that gives her the superpower of LOVE! Rooted in a deletion of a number of specific genes in chromosome #7, this condition often causes devastating physical and cognitive complications, but it also has some near-miraculous side effects. Callie always finds a way to only see the good in the world and in things and people around her! This unburdened outlook on life comes from the heart of this angelic girl who touches lives of everyone that she encounters by either warming their day or making them smile to changing their lives forever. A new film is coming out that will chronicle Callie's journey as she spreads the love by meeting other special people with Williams syndrome and in the process, makes some of their dreams come true!
What touched me most when talking with Callie was her huge heart, the way she spreads light and joy, and the hope I have in humanity's ability to love each other.

This episode is packed with nuggets of wisdom that will change your life and the world for the better if taken to heart. I had the honor of sitting with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and was filled with hope for our future.
At age 15, Eric Adams was beaten by police. This traumatizing incident inspired him to become a police officer to help reform NYC policing from the inside. He co-founded "100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care," an advocacy group that rose to nationwide prominence speaking out against police brutality, racial profiling, and departmental diversity. He served 22 years on the force and retired a highly respected Captain.
We recorded this episode one week before the death of George Floyd and I feel we need Eric's guidance more than ever right now. Eric is what I call a real-life superhero who is creating real reform and real recovery. He traded in his blue uniform for a blue suit when he was elected to the New York State Senate and has earned widespread praise for creating innovative programs on issues ranging from conflict resolution to child abuse prevention.
What touched me most when talking with Eric was his kind heart and his passion for helping others. He is on a mission to serve and strengthen his community and shares how change is possible and hope is available. You can get through the toughest times, handle the most painful experiences, become more resilient and create a safe community. Eric shows us how!

"When pain becomes purpose, your scars begin to heal and not hurt." — Doug Bopst
Today's guest is proof that miracles can happen! It's my privilege to share the story of Doug Bopst. A regular guy who, like so many, suffered in silence from depression. To self-medicate he began experimenting with drugs in his teens which quickly led to an opioid addiction. He had no ambition, no confidence, and no care for tomorrow.
After being arrested on a felony drug charge, Doug hit rock bottom. But sitting in jail, miserable, an addict, overweight, and locked in a victim mindset, he found a mentor in a cellmate. This cellmate got him into fitness and ultimately saved his life. Doug chose a different path. He decided to do things completely different and was redeemed by sobriety, faith, fitness, and family.
This is a conversation about what it was like, what happened, and what it's like now. Doug shares his story of hope and resilience and how he conquered his demons and put the past behind him.
Doug is an award-winning personal trainer, author, speaker, and business owner featured on the Today Show, Men's Health, Goalcoast, Fox, ABC, and Thrive Global. He has a top-rated podcast called The Adversity Advantage and is empowering thousands of people around the world to improve their health and wellness and overcome addiction.
