The Apple Seed

From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a regular episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.

Ever wonder about the origin of the baker's dozen? Mark Binder's "Give Me Some Cookies!" provides a magical explanation for why customers deserve a little extra. Sam is joined in the studio by Don Shelline, a member of our BYU Radio family.

We seem to talk a lot on the Appleseed about siblings, particularly youngest siblings. We leave it to the two older brothers or sisters to mess up on the challenges that the youngest finally gets right. Today we’ll explore two of these stories that each also feature the wind in one way or another.

In this episode, enjoy the following stories

“Katora; Lord of the Wind,” by Judith Black on Blooming

“The Magic Brocade,” by Heather Forest on World Tales of Wisdom and Wonder

Tellers and stories on BYU Radio.
