An Entry in the Radio Family Journal called "Rainbow Connection," A Bil Lepp story called "Punching the Lard," and a live recording of a Debra Fotheringham song called "Odd Shaped Pieces."

Have you ever looked at someone, written them off as some one you weren't interested in, and then found out they were the most interesting person you ever met? In this hour, Kim Weitkamp tells a story she calls "The Old Stained Man," about meeting a guy in a restaurant that fits just that description. You'll also hear an entry in the Radio Family Journal about stuff getting stuck in your head. Ever happen to you? The phenomenon is called an "earworm," and we'll chat about it at the front end of the hour. You'll also get a great performance of the Tom Waits tune "Flowers Grave," performend live in our studio by Grizzly Goat's Alex Vincent. It's all this hour, on The Apple Seed!

Fairy godmothers, a glass slipper, evil stepmothers, a rather quick courting period—throw them all together and you’re bound to get a Cinderella story. But not every version of this fairytale is as cut and dry as its traditional elements. Today, we’re bringing you Cinderella talesand parodiesfrom across the world, as told by Ed Stivender, Milbre Burch, Charlotte Blake-Alsoton, and Megan Hicks.Join us and Liz Freeman, a BYU masters student in Marriage and Family Therapy, as we discuss how the Cinderella story has changed through the years and whether its many romantic tropes hold up today.

From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a normal episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.

On today's BITE, you'll hear a story by The Storycrafters called "Donkey and Toad". Sometimes we just need to swallow our pride and be willing to accept help from others. Sam is joined by Assistant Producer Karani Namunyu.
