  • Saturday Round Up: Boys, Divas, and Family
Stories and snippets that we've adored from the week of July 16, 2018 to July 20, 2018.
Our Boys Boys Boys episode was dedicated to the ingenious and head shaking shenanigans that young boys seem to have a knack for discovering and carrying out. In the round up we're bringing you Jay O'Callahan's story from that show entitled, "Politics!", about the time of his life he was interested in national politics.
Prima Donna contained stories with characters that required extra care or maintenance. One of the stories in that episode was from the sidekick of storyteller Willy Claflin, Maynard Moose. It was a fractured fairytale entitled, "Cinderella and the Three Bears".
Another episode we aired this week, Generations, was about the connections different age groups in families can have with one another. In that episode Sam shared a personal story and we also aired a collection of John McCutcheon stories and songs he performed at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival.

  • Generations
In this episode, Sam muses on the notion that while older generations often pass on their magical wisdom to younger generations, younger generations often return the favor, passing wisdom back up the family tree, just when someone might need it. You'll hear Sam's ideas reflected in a story about a recent family reunion talent show. That story serves as a springboard for a tale by Kevin Kling called "Lake," a couple of songs from the great songwriter and storyteller John McCutcheon about parents, children, and teachers, recorded live at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, and also a great story from Bill Harley about his own kids growing up.

  • Prima Donna
Stories all about divas, or, as the Italian say, “prime donne.” That’s the plural form of “prima donna,” a term which literally means “first lady.” In 19th century Italy, the prima donna was the leading female singer in an opera company. The prime donne gained a reputation of being just as dramatic offstage as they were onstage. There are many stories of leading ladies putting unnecessary demands on fellow singers, musicians, set and wardrobe designers, and other staff. Today, the term "prima donna" is used to describe a person in any field who is particularly vain, demanding, temperamental, or self-entitled.

  • Saturday Round Up: Wiles, Wagers, and Storytelling Origins
Stories and snippets that we've adored from the week of July 9, 2018 to July 13, 2018.
From our episode Kitchen Table Talk With Pam Faro and More we wanted to share with you a portion of that conversation (6:47) where Pam explains how she became a storyteller as well as a story from Noa Baum entitled Treasure Under the Bridge(00:40), which is a tale about following your dreams.
We also deeply enjoyed Donald Davis' story Going to Grandma's (13:26) that was part of our episode "Bet Your Bottom Dollar" which contained all sorts of stories about the interesting wagers people have made.
Our "Wily Women" episode featured fantastical accounts of women finding solutions to odd situations they found themselves in. One of our favorites was Shonaleigh's telling of Princess in a Box (42:43).

  • Kitchen Table Talk With Pam Faro and More
In this episode, hear a story called "The Treasure Under The Bridge," collected by storyteller Noa Baum as she studied stories of lands from whence came her ancestors. You'll also hear a terrific, musical version of Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Nightingale," from celebrated storyteller Heather Forest. At the center of the episode, hear a conversation between Sam and storyteller Pam Faro, recorded at Pam's kitchen table outside of Boulder, Colorado. The story of how Pam became a professional storyteller -- discovering storytelling during an era when she was a young single mother -- is worth hearing!
