On April 15th, 2013, terrorist bombs were placed near the Boston Marathon finish line that left three dead and more than 260 wounded. Elena Breese was in the crowd waiting to cheer on her husband Jeff as he crossed the finish line. In a split second, everything changed when a terrorist bomb exploded across from the spectator stands. Elena suffered a bomb concussion and fled to safety. She was reunited with her husband Jeff later, and although she was full of gratitude, PTSD would then sneak up on her, much like the bombing and alter her life.

Savanna Tate takes us on her journey of pregnancy with triplets, and through her darkest times as her baby had cancer. The hero’s journey can be full of our most terrifying and dreaded moments. But it also provides a gateway towards equally vibrant and growth-filled days in the future. The hero’s journey asks us to step away from the familiar of who we are or have always been, and direct us on a pilgrimage towards who we are becoming. The in-between moments of this epoch can leave us feeling shook and out of sorts. But there is always hidden magic and clues that live in the shadows, that will direct our path and hold our hand through the darkest of days. It's only when we arrive on the other side that we can look back with a sense of gratitude for our growth. Savanna courageously shows us how she navigated her dark night of the soul and is now keeping Hayes memory alive through education, advocacy, and fundraising to assist others who are facing their worst nightmares.

Jill Hazard Rowe, Is one of the founding members of Mama Dragons, a support group for Mothers with LGBTQIA Children. Jills son came out in 2011 and at the time she was an orthodox member of her LDS faith and thought that being gay was a choice. "She says that to be gay is incredibly difficult, but to be a gay Mormon is impossible." She takes us on her powerful journey of love and realization that God made her son exactly as he should be. Through the support of other mothers, Jill and her friends created the Mama Dragons. A place to give support when other women's children come out. Several thousand women find a soft place to land in this closed group. Women are finding the courage to stand with their LGBTQIA and it's contagious.

We believe at the core of the human experience we all need the same thing to survive. LOVE. It's far to easy to forget this when we step out into the world and realize that there are so many expressions of life. It's easy to allow our cultural, religious, and family influences to create barriers towards those who are different. But what we don't always understand, is that the differences are the ingredients that make life go round. If you ever find yourself drowning in the shadow of a tragedy, when help shows up, I promise you will be thankful for whoever offers you comfort. We need to spend more time listening and learning, we need to hear our fellow brothers and sisters, and let them know that they are valuable, worthy, and deserving. We need to stand up for the children who commit suicide because living hurts too much, and support the parents so they can openly love their babies in wholeness and without shame. In this episode we talk about the One Year anniversary of Pauls death. Regardless of your tragedy, time eventually takes you to the center of grief and asks you to take a long look through the lens of that time, and everything that happened. First anniversary’s piggyback on anxiety and anticipation about what the day will bring. How do you find honoring and gratitude during these flashback moments? We hope that by sharing our process, you will find peace and some sort of breath, and hope in yours.

Today we talk with Ashley Lemieux, a writer-speaker, and Founder of The Shine Project. She is an ambassador for change in this world. As an entrepreneur, she employes inner-city youth giving hope and life to the underserved.  Ashley shares her personal story regarding the abuses in the foster care system, and how this had directly affected the lives of her and her husband Mike, and their two children.

We want to help bring awareness to all of the babies and children who get lost and mistreated. The only way we can make a change is to start the conversations, and then take action. We need to know the stories so that we can use our anger as fire to fuel change.
