We love a good, cathartic cry as much as the next person, but when it comes to filming ourselves crying and posting it online for the world to see… we’re not sold. Sharing vulnerably is an important part of building a personal brand, but at some point, the vulnerability can become forced, and even manipulative at its worst. Look, we’d be lying if we said we’ve never filmed ourselves crying, but filming yourself doesn’t have to lead to making content out of it. On the other hand, you can’t please everyone. So if blowing snot bubbles on the internet is what excites you, who are we to judge? Getting trapped in someone’s fart cloud [2:25] Crying online for attention [7:57] What are the underlying motives? It’s been a rough week. Dolly Parton died, women are filming themselves confronting their cheating husbands, and Danny is attempting to masturbate. All that to say, we’re tired. Life in our mid-40’s looks like getting attached to our CAVA routines and going to bed by 8pm, so if everyone else could just do all the social effort for us and if men could just shut the fuck up forever, that would be great. A celebrity death that hit different [4:52] We’re in our Misandry Era [7:00] The internet sensationalizes bad men [9:37] “You’re a great guy, but…” [13:44] The struggles are not equal [16:17] We’re tired now [19:15] Getting too comfortable at CAVA [24:38] Fridge cigs and Chobani creamers [28:16] A new 75 hard? We’ve made a practice of not taking anything personally but maybe we should be taking things *more* personally. We came across a reel that got us thinking… if we’re all grown ups then surely we know what we’re doing when we hurt people, right? So when someone hurts us, maybe it is personal, and maybe that can give us the strength to walk away. Watch the reel we’re talking about. Some new reviews (THANK YOU BESTIES!) Maybe it’s the trauma of betrayal, the changing of our hormones, or just general exhaustion, but sex is off the menu. We’ve seen enough non-contextual dicks and had our hearts broken enough time to last a life time. Opening up again sounds like way too much effort, and frankly, so does the act of masturbating. Maybe the next chapter of the Best Life looks more like the Nun Life. That’s fine by us. Getting back on a routine after travel [3:45] Our changing hormones [11:35] A lowered libido [13:24] Betrayal trauma and sex [16:53] Non-contextual dicks [18:43] Closing off to the possibility of getting hurt again [21:10] The state of dating is exhausting [23:58] Success on an app doesn’t make success in a relationship [29:33] “Normal” masturbation [31:40] Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters https://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/ Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Life looks really different than how we once imagined it would, and we know we’re not alone in this. Maybe you never got to have the things you wanted, or maybe you got everything you thought you wanted, but things still feel empty. Whatever the situation or the circumstance, there’s a real grief surrounding it all. But there’s nothing wrong with that sadness, and when we learn to make peace with it, we can make the best of whatever comes next. That’s how we turn this shit-show into the Best Life. We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. Grieving the life you thought you’d have [4:07] Pain and dissatisfaction doesn’t discriminate [9:00] Is the traditional script changing? [10:56] Wanting to be better than the generations before us [13:51] Making peace with the grief [17:54] Where your values lie [24:05] No one gets through life without grief [26:29] Be open to whatever comes next [28:39] Making the best of everything that happens to you [33:14] Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters https://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/ Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode!
