The Big Boo Cast

We recorded later than usual this week because I've been out of town, and we were moving through a series of New Year-adjacent recaps (the latest with the Shankles, State's bowl game, the playoff games, a few I See Yous) when Melanie saw some breaking news about A&M's new offensive coordinator. To paraphrase Ross Gellar, it was a bit of a pivot because Melanie needed to do some serious real-time processing. As you will hear.

No worries, however. Melanie rallies to share her Five Favorites, and in the most exciting development ever, I share a new pot roast recipe I hope to try.

The year is full of possibilities. :-)

Enjoy, y'all!

There's nothing new here...it's the episode that just came out, except this time I deleted the unnecessary ad music that I mistakenly left in the original episode.

Please know that you can continue to count on us for podcasting excellence. :-)

Happy New Year!

This week Melanie and I talk through a wrap-up of our Christmas festivities, and we even (unexpectedly) discuss some low-level goals for 2023. We also talk about our current writing frustrations, and I share about an exciting new habit I developed in 2022. Except that it's not really exciting. But yay for new habits!

You can rest assured that we break down everything we've watched this past week - we have definitely put in some time in front of the television - and it's my turn for Five Favorites.

Hope y'all enjoy!

The kids are home this week, so naturally Melanie and I talk about that on this episode, along with our still-tentative Christmas cooking plans. We reflect on Mike Leach's legacy in the college football coaching world, and we even get into an unexpected discussion about NIL and the transfer portal before I tell Mel about an exciting new (to us, at least) Cracker Barrel to-go option. We understand that this may create a bit of topic-related whiplash.

Also, I share about a TV show I binged with some authority this past weekend, and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.

As you can imagine, Melanie and I were heartbroken to hear about Coach Mike Leach's death earlier this week. We actually recorded this episode before he passed away, so we talk about a lot of the stuff you might expect: Melanie's hunting wardrobe, the trip that David and I took last week, A&M's continued search for an offensive coordinator, and our thoughts about the college kids coming home for Christmas break. All fun things - and it's my turn for Five Favorites.

There's also a special little something at the very end.

Let's continue to pray for the Leach family - as well as for the Mississippi State football team and coaches. Coach Leach was a treasure, and we lost him way too soon.

Melanie and I are so happy that our friend Travis Cottrell (aka FryDaddy) is joining us on this week's episode. Travis is a gifted worship leader, singer, musician, and songwriter who just so happens to love the Christmas season a lot. Like, A LOT A LOT. So when Mel and I talked about recording an episode that functions almost like a Christmas special (an extravaganza, if you will), asking Travis to join us was a no-brainer. His Neil Diamond impression alone is worth the (super free) price of admission.

So. We're going to talk about the latest with Travis' family, we're going to talk about Christmas memories, we're going to talk about Christmas food, and we're going to talk about Christmas music. Plus, it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.

See? AN EXTRAVAGANZA.

Hope y'all enjoy!

We honestly weren't sure how we were going to make this episode happen because Melanie has a pretty significant case of laryngitis this week. As in she had zero voice on Sunday and Monday - which is problematic in terms of recording a podcast episode. However, on Tuesday morning she said she could power through, and that is exactly what she did. As a result, you're about to hear the raspiest account of the Texas A&M / LSU game you could possibly imagine - and the raspiest reactions to my thoughts about the State / Ole Miss game. WON'T HE DO IT.

We also discuss season 5 of The Crown, we break down our respective Thanksgivings, and it's my turn for Five Favorites.

Enjoy, y'all!

This week Melanie catches us up on why she went to College Station but opted to excuse herself from the actual football game, and she shares some A&M / Reveille history. We talk through a few other football-related items before we move into Thanksgiving prep and plans, so be sure to look in the show notes for the recipes we mention. 'Tis the season, after all.

We also discuss Christmas movies as well as the latest on Melanie's dream of a more neutral Christmas tree - and it's her turn for Five Favorites.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Guess what, everyone? IT'S BASKETBALL SEASON NOW. As you can imagine, that is a source of comfort and hope for Melanie and me after our teams had a not-great football weekend. We talk about all the not-great stuff, along with Side Eyes and I See Yous. And much to our delight, this week has given us the Yellowstone season 5 premier, so we break down the non-spoiler-y latest with the Duttons - as well as digging into some other things we've been watching and reading.

We also talk through Melanie's (general) reactions to our Patreon book club book (spoiler alert: we both ADORE IT), and it's my turn for Five Favorites.

Enjoy, everybody!

This episode is longer than usual because of our Gift Guide, but you can rest assured that Melanie and I break down all the important football developments before we get into anything else. After all, we want the podcast to be a safe place for Mel as she processes her football grief and disillusionment. Personally I think she's holding up beautifully.

Just like last week, the Gift Guide links are in a Google doc (link below), and it's Melanie's turn for Five Favorites.
