We always hope that the stories we share with you on The Apple Seed spark memories for you to share with the people that you love. Sometimes those memories are sparked by listening to personal stories, and other times by listening to tall tales and fairy tales. So sit back, relax, and get ready to have the memories wash over you as you listen to stories about feathers, wishes, and potholders.
On today's episode, enjoy the following:
"The Blue Feather" by Jill Lamede from Stories from the Tintagel Storyteller (11:30)
Jill Lamede goes by the title, "The Tintagel Storyteller". 'Tintagel' is the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. And to kick things off today, Jill will favor us with a story about a red-headed orphan girl. No, not little orphan Annie. This one's at the heart of the story, "The Blue Feather".
"Three Wishes" by Donna Washington from Live and Learn: The Exploding Frog and other Stories (7:54)
You likely know a lot of stories about three wishes being bestowed upon some unsuspecting, sometimes hapless hero of a story. In this story the three wishes are divided between a husband and wife. Each of them gets a wish and then the third wish they have to make together. How does that go? Listen to this story from Donna Washington to find out.
"Think, Live, Fly" by David Vanadia from Six Stories Tall (7:55)
This next story from David Vanadia is an alagorical story that has at its heart a lesson about what you carry with you that will help you fly. And while we don't encourage anyone to pursue the exact course of the guy in this story - don't go jumping off cliffs in any sort of literal sense - metaphorically there's a lesson here worth talking about with the people that you love.
"Potholders" by Kim Weitkamp from Penny Candy Love (17:15)
Here's a memory from the great storyteller Kim Weitkamp about, among other things, the importance of telling the truth and representing your family well.
Radio Family Journal: "First Girlfriend's Dad" (5:31)
David Vanadia's story "Think, Live, Fly" has Sam reflecting on the people in his life that have helped him do whatever flying he's been able to do throughout his life. And it's led to a memory that needs to be entered into his Radio Family Journal.
