In this episode of the Breakthrough Emotional Eating Podcast, listen as I challenge the traditional approach of changing one's diet to lose weight. This method is counterproductive and sustains a cycle of weight loss and gain without addressing the underlying issues.
I discuss how the brain's resistance to change and the creation of desire can sabotage weight loss efforts. Instead, I advocate for understanding the emotional reasons behind overeating and developing a healthier relationship with food and oneself. By focusing more on the 'why' rather than the 'what' we eat, I believe individuals can achieve sustainable weight loss without the need for drastic diet changes.

It can be exciting to set a goal for yourself that you really want to achieve, and when you start to see progress towards reaching it….nothing can be more rewarding.
But have you ever felt yourself starting to obsess about wanting to achieve something? I’m talking the “can’t stop thinking about it all day and night" kind of thinking. When does it cross the line from being a healthy pursuit of a goal, and it moves into perfectionism?
This week’s episode of The Breakthrough Emotional Eating podcast I discuss emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset when striving for a goal, and avoiding self-destructive behaviors associated with perfectionism.
Is it consistency or perfectionism? You will learn:
The distinction between consistency and perfectionism lies in the mindset one adopts while working towards a goal.
Consistency involves being reliable and steady in behaviors, whereas perfectionism entails setting excessively high expectations for flawless performance.
Consistent progress is gradual and acknowledges setbacks as part of the journey, while perfectionism leads to self-criticism and unrealistic standards.
Strategies for adopting a healthier mindset include setting realistic goals, focusing on progress rather than perfection, learning from setbacks, practicing self-compassion, and controlling perfectionistic thoughts.
Ultimately, prioritizing self-care and recognizing when perfectionism becomes detrimental are crucial for achieving sustainable progress and avoiding negative emotional patterns like emotional eating.

Do your emotions influence your food choices? 100% they do! If you have ever found yourself elbow deep in a carton of Ben & Jerry’s after a fight with your partner, you know this to be true.
Why does this happen?
In this week’s episode of The Breakthrough Emotional Eating podcast, I’m diving into the impact of emotions on our eating habits. I will break down why we crave certain foods when stressed, sad, or lonely. From the psychological comfort of positive memories to the brain's release of dopamine and endorphins, we unpack the science behind the allure of comfort foods.
In Part II, I’ll talk about how food becomes a quick escape from emotional discomfort, acting as a distraction or even a temporary numbing agent. We also break down the role of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine in influencing our mood and pleasure.
The episode wraps up with practical tips for healthier coping strategies, encouraging mindfulness, emotional expression, and stress reduction techniques to replace using food as the go-to emotional crutch.
So, if you've ever found yourself reaching for that tub of ice cream when stressed or feeling a bit down, this episode explains why it happens and offers some practical tips to build a healthier relationship with food and emotions.
If you are looking for your first steps in the process of managing your emotional eating and losing weight, you want to take my free course, Food Freedom, which will lay out each of the first three steps for you to take to understanding why you emotionally eat and how to start to change how you think and in turn manage your food.
