Listen to this Leo Varadkar - The reality of life for Ireland's working homeless
In this very important Reboot Republic Rory talks to Darren Duffy, who is working and also homeless, living in emergency accommodation in Dublin.
He explains what is the reality of life in emergency accommodation, how he has been in homelessness for 18months, and yet has never had an offer of social housing. He also explains the devastating impact homelessness has had on his mental health and how is starting to blame himself, think something is wrong with him, despite, as the facts point out, the reasons for almost all homelessness is because of the failed politics of the victim blaming Leo Varadkar and successive FF/FG Government's policies of high rents and failing to build real social housing.
Please share this podcast, people need to hear this, and contact your local TDs and Minsiter for Housing and the Taoiseach - to take real emergency action to end homelessness and stop blaming those in homeless for their housing policy failures.
This is a powerful must listen and share podcast.

Thank you to human rights and healthcare activist, Seana Grant and cohost of Shrapnel, Sam Mcilwaine, for joining us to dive into the contentious issue of the July 12th celebrations.
We talk about what the 12th means to them as individuals and to people in their different communities; we delve into the past and ask has the toxicity lessened despite some ugly recent scenes?
We also discuss the underlying politics of these events and look at the "free state" mentality to such things. Spoiler: the Dublin bubble isn't great at understanding these issues.

(Editors note: Recorded and released to members on July 4th)
Following yesterday's show and the discussion relating to Sinn Féin's position on immigration, it was timely to be rejoined on the podcast by that party's Senator, Lynn Boylan.
We get stuck into their seriousness on climate action, preparing to lead the first non FF/FG government and how they can address the vocal anti-immigrant voices both within and outside the party.
Then we discuss her important members bill that would see Ireland put a stop to companies like Amazon dumping unsold electronic devices like tv's and laptops (up to 130,000 per week in some cases) simply to keep their business models intact.

On Friday I went into the Iceland Store on Talbot Street to speak with some of the workers who are currently occupying it as part of an ongoing and nationwide dispute with their employer over unpaid wages and many other breaches of the terms of their employment. The fact that we sat only a few hundred meters from where Debenhams workers were shafted was not lost on anybody.
Staff member Donna and Independent Workers Union rep, Alex, talked to me about the months that built up to this action and how they've sought and received little or no support from Government nor the company's UK owner. A sincere thank you to Bernard Mulvany, for helping to arrange the podcast. Up the Workers.

The Failed Privatisation of Water Should be a Warning for us in Ireland
    Please join us at patreon.com/tortoiseshack
Rejoining us on the tortoise shack was listener favourite and one of the founders of the Green New Deal, Prof Richard Murphy, and he was in flying form and ready to cut through the B.S.
He breaks down the class warfare been waged by Central Bankers across the globe, the need find new and innovative ways to reduce house prices outside of market crashes and we look at how the cost of re-nationalising utilities, such as water in England, can be effectively £0. We wade right into the Public vs Private debate and finally we ask what hope is there in politics right now?

The solution to the housing crisis the developers and banks don’t want you to know about: Factory built sustainable homes for €150,000
In this Reboot Republic, Rory talks to Building Surveyor, Fergus Merriman, about a revolutionary idea for delivering homes – mass produced factory built housing, that are sustainable and affordable. Fergus explains how it could and should be done. The developers, banks and other interests dominating housing don’t want this idea. But its time to make our housing system deliver homes for people, not assets.

One of the first people we spoke with on the Echo Chamber Podcast was former Army Captain, whistleblower and disability rights activist, Tom Clonan. He later added the Senator ;)
Tom came back to the tortoise shack to talk about what he's working on now, trying to get a WIN that will help us all and his journey from young buck in Finglas to the Senator who remains an activist.
