I wanted to share a personal moment I had recently. I was on a plane after delivering my first keynote, and to my surprise, I started sobbing. Not out of sadness, but because I finally paused to reflect on how far I've come. From marketing myself to systematizing my teachings and launching courses, I've been on quite a journey! That moment reminded me of the importance of celebrating our wins, no matter how big or small. Whether it's appearing on camera for the first time or landing a client through social media, these are all victories worth acknowledging. Let's talk about something a lot of us ponder over—teleprompters. Do we love them, hate them, or just not want to mess with them at all? Well, as someone who’s spent years in front of the camera, here’s my take.
Teleprompters can be both a friend and a foe. They're fantastic when you're super keen on hitting all your key points, like when you’re talking about a new product or service. But, and it’s a big but, they can make you sound robotic. And that's a no-go if your aim is to connect deeply with your audience. Trust me, people want the vibrant, human you—not a monotone reader.
My advice? Ditch the prompter when you can. Jot down a few key bullet points and speak from the heart. Your authenticity will shine through, and that's what engages people. But if you find yourself needing that safety net of a teleprompter, practice until your reading voice sounds as lively as your speaking one.
