The Longhorn Republic

There are many questions offensively for the Texas Longhorns, but the future of the running back position is not one of them. Texas brings back not one, but two legitimate No. 1 options in the backfield - Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson - giving them a significant advantage at the position. The days of 300-carry back are gone, so what do we expect from the Longhorn running backs when they take the field this fall?

We also take a look at where Texas players landed in the MLB Draft and Longhorns in international competition as we Down the Forty.

Our journey through the Texas Longhorns' 2022 reaches the second week of conference play, so we welcome in Melissa Triebwasser of Frogs O' War to help us dive in on the TCU Horned Frogs.

TCU will have a new man calling the plays, with Dough Meachem taking over full-time for Sonny Cumbie - who is back in Lubbock to call the plays for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He inherits a team that is fully loaded at the offensive skill positions, but has questions at the offensive line - so what do we expect from his unit?

We continue our march through the Texas Longhorns' 2022 schedule, this week previewing another former Southwest Conference opponent - the Rice Owls. Last season was not ideal for anyone but in spite of having more than half of their games canceled, the Owls showed progress under second-year head coach Mike Bloomgren.

They bring back a ton of production from last year's team, in addition to adding former Nebraska Cornhusker quarterback Luke McCaffrey to their talented core. What will the season look like for Rice and how will they try to incorporate a new quarterback into the offense?

The Texas Longhorns didn't open the College World Series as they would have hoped, struggling from the plate and managing to put just one run across and striking out 21 times in their opener against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. What did we learn about Texas in the loss and how can they fix it as they head into an elimination game against the Tennessee Volunteers?

Texas also hosted yet another big weekend of official visitors, with several high-priority targets making their way to the Forty Acres. What does Texas need to do in this class to build positive recruiting momentum for 2022 and beyond?
