The Longhorn Republic

The Texas Longhorns spend fall camp installing a new defense, switching their front in the hopes to create a greater pass rush. So what are the expectations for the front four? What do we hope to see from a talented, yet unexperienced linebacker group? And can the defensive backfield once again be the true strength of the defense?

With the change to the schedule, the Texas Longhorns get an extra week to prepare for their matchup against the UTEP Miners. Head coach Tom Herman called it a Week 0 for them, giving them opportunities to refine the new systems even more before taking the field for the first time.

Texas also added not one, but two graduate transfers to rooms that needed some depth and experience, with Gabriel Watson joining the running backs and Brenden Schooler joining the wide receivers.

We are a few short weeks away from the Texas Longhorns kicking off against the UTEP Miners, so after 12 weeks of previewing every other team we begin our two-week look at the 2020 Longhorns.

Few questions arise at quarterback with Sam Ehlinger going into his final season, but who will be the other offensive complements to the captain?

The Texas Longhorns capped off week two of practice with a scrimmage Saturday, but there are still questions about several different position groups, most notably at wide receiver, offensive line and linebacker. What do we hope to see as the Longhorns as they enter into the second half of fall camp and who do we anticipate separating themselves at key positions?

We come to what used to be the final opponent on the Texas Longhorns schedule, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The 2020 schedule was shuffled, so now this mid-season matchup has the power to define what the Big 12 looks like in 2020. The Cowboys return three dynamic playmakers and nine of their 10 top defensive performers from a year ago, so what are the expectations in Stillwater? For some help, we reached out to Phillip Slavin (@oktxarpoke) of Cowboys Ride for Free (@CowboysRFF) and the Ten12 Podcast (@Ten12Podcast) to give us some insight.

With the Texas Longhorns gaining the commitment of the top player in the 2022 class, Quinn Ewers, we had to have our friend Mike Roach on to discuss. During the interview, the news of Jalen Milroe flipping to Alabama broke, so we got live reacting from Roach as well.

We also take some time to discuss the first week of fall camp, try to gain some insight into Tom Herman’s post-scrimmage press conference and break down what questions we still have.

The Big 12 announced its intentions to play football in 2020, meaning that the Texas Longhorns have a new schedule for the 2020 season. Texas opens the season with UTEP on September 12 before starting conference play against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Because we're having a season, the season previews continue, so we bring on Levi Stevenson of Wide Right and Natty Light to help us preview the Iowa State Cyclones.
