  • Jan 29, 2019 - Bru McCoy Arrives in Austin
A hotly-contested recruiting cycle saw Bru McCoy stay in California to play for the USC Trojans, but things changed quickly for the five star prospect. The departure of Kliff Kingsbury led to the elite athlete transferring and landing with the Texas Longhorns. What does the addition of McCoy do for Texas moving forward and what can fans expect moving forward? (2:14) Texas basketball continued to struggle, as they dropped back-to-back games against TCU and Georgia to fall to 11-9 on the season. What has happened to the Longhorns and what, if anything, can Shaka Smart do to stop the bleeding? If he cannot, how much longer does the fourth-year coach have in Burnt Orange? (13:03) This week’s Bang the Drum has Kyle looking at what Charles Omenihu’s success means to Texas moving forward, while Gerald tries to figure out Emmanuel Acho. • January 22, 2019 - Quarterback Transfers and Upsetting OU
After losing three-straight, the Texas Longhorns came out, built an early lead and were able to hold off a late comeback attempt from the Oklahoma Sooners to bring their conference record to 3-3. For the first time this season it appeared as if Kerwin Roach II and Dylan Osetkowski were able to set the tone for the game they want (2:46). It was also wild on campus, as news broke of all three of Texas’s backup quarterbacks were reportedly shopping around. When the dust all settled, Cameron Rising was headed to Utah and Thompson was no longer in the portal (10:06). With two inexperienced quarterbacks serving as the backups, should Texas fans be worried? Helping with the depth issues is arrival of early enrolee Roschon Johnson. Of the nine freshman that arrived on campus for the spring, who should fans expect to make the biggest impact. (21:20) Finally, they close the show out with Bang the Drum. Kyle breaks down the unique Longhorn connection between the two Super Bowl teams, while Gerald celebrates Poona Ford (36:48) Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. • January 14, 2019 - Draft Decisions and Texas Basketball
Texas basketball loses a heartbreaker on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas took an early lead, but was not able to hold onto it late. Matt Coleman, Kerwin Roach II and Jase Febres all turned in decent performances, but it seemed as if the team couldn’t string it all together. How does Texas manage to right the ship and what does it mean for the future of the program? (2:49) The football team got the answers it was looking for to plan for the 2019 season. Lil’Jordan Humphrey made the decision to jump to the NFL Draft, while safety Brandon Jones will return for one more year. What does his return mean for the Texas defense and how will Texas bakcfill its leading receiver? (16:00) Texas baseball is gearing up for their 2019 run, but got some devastating news as shortstop David Hamilton will miss the whole season due to a ruptured achilles. In spite of that, the Longhorns are ranked No. 23 and hope to have another impressive run (33:15). We close the show out by honoring one of the best traditions in all of college athletics, Big Bertha, and we Bang the Drum. Kyle looks at two Longhorns in the NBA, while Gerald gets excited about an overlooked 2019 football signee (38:02). Myron Warren Dunk Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. • January 8, 2019 - Basketball Catch Up and 2019 Football Predictions
Now that football is officially wrapped up, we take some time to get caught up with the Texas basketball teams (2:37). After a few disappointing losses, Texas has managed to tighten up and are 2-0 to start Big 12 play, in spite of the struggles of Kerwin Roach II. How have Jaxson Hayes, Dylan Ostekowski and the rest of the Texas bigs stepped up as the Longhorn guards find their footing? It wouldn’t be a Longhorn Republic podcast without looking at the football team. Collin Johnson announced his return and quarterback Sam Ehlinger is ready to jump into a junior season. What does the offense look like around them and how can Texas replace more than 200 starts on defense (19:19)? We also take some time to get caught up on the news we missed during bowl season (54:51) and close the show out with Bang the Drum (58:49). Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. • January 2, 2018 - Sugar Bowl Recap
The Texas Longhorns went to New Orleans as underdogs and came away with a statement win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Gerald and Kyle break down how the Texas defense managed to put a stranglehold on the Georgia running game, what Todd Orlando’s scheme did to the Bulldogs, and how Big 12 play prepared the secondary for this matchup. They also take a look at Sam Ehlinger’s gritty performance against the Bulldogs’ defense and how he stacks up against Texas all-time players. • December 28, 2018 - Sugar Bowl Preview
The Texas Longhorns are gearing up to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Vegas has Texas as a 13-point underdog, but we look at why it may be a closer matchup. Collin Johnson and LilJordan Humphrey create a matchup nightmare for a Georgia team that is missing its top pass defender in Deandre Baker. How can Texas exploit that matchup and come away with a win (2:35)? We also break down what a new arena means to the Texas basketball team (36:25) and how the Longhorns can battle back from a tough loss against Providence (42:32). With quarterbacks Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson both entering the NCAA Transfer Pool, does Texas need to rebuild its quarterback room, and what does this all mean long-term (48:25)? Finally, we close the show out with Bang the Drum (53:50) where Kyle does his best CFB revisionist history, and Gerald wants some rational discussion about Texas quarterbacks. • December 20, 2018 - Early Signing Day Recap
The excitement of Early Signing Day has come and gone, and the Texas Longhorns had a fairly uneventful day in a positive way. Twenty-one of their 22 committed players submitted their letters of intent and look to be locked in for yet another top-1o class. To break down the class, where Texas stands now, and what Texas will work on ahead of February’s National Signing Day we welcome Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation. We start by looking at immediate impact players and who the analysts like the most. Wescott gives his thoughts on how Texas tries to add more depth to the running backs group and looks at what running back Derrian Brown brings to the table. We also take some time to look at why Texas was very out of state heavy a year after locking up the state of Texas. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. • December 17, 2018 - Early Signing Period Preview
It’s a big week for those of us who pay attention to recruiting, but before the signing period begins we found out that Toneil Carter and Mike Williams made the choice to transfer. How do these departures impact Texas moving forward and what does the depth now look like at two key positions? (3:13) To preview what could be a big Early Signing Period for Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns, we welcome in Cody Daniel, editor at Burnt Orange Nation (8:18). We look at what newly-committed linebacker Caleb Johnson means to the class, if Texas has a shot to land one of the uncommitted big names, and where Texas goes from there if they do not? Then, it’s a quick rundown of men’s basketball’s big win over Grand Canyon (21:57), before closing the show out with Bang the Drum (32:49). Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. • December 10, 2018 - Volleyball and the All-Mack Brown Team
We start off with the volleyball team, after being eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a Elite 8 loss at the hands of the BYU Cougars. What lessons do we take from an incredible season, and what can fans expect from the ladies in 2019 (4:04)? The men’s basketball team had an up-and-down week, losing to Radford and VCU, before knocking off Purdue at home. Kyle and Gerald work through what went wrong and how Texas managed to pull out a win at home (9:55). Five Texas players were named to the Associated Press’s All-Big 12 team, but notably Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Collin Johnson were left off the list. Should they have received the honor and what does it mean for Texas’s future (21:57). So what happened as Kyler Murray continued his assault on the record books and tried to cement his case for a Heisman Trophy?
