Molly shares the story of her unmedicated birth at a freestanding birth center, after a previous first trimester pregnancy loss. In Molly's birth story, she had a "retained placenta" and because of some risk factors that she had during pregnancy with anemia, they took more of an active management approach to delivering her placenta in order to minimize the amount of postpartum bleeding that she was having so that she didn't have complications associated with her anemia.

Her second was unmedicated after spontaneous labor, where she received IV pain relief. We discuss what Mary wished she knew about IV pain relief and the effects that it can have on baby, the concerns with IV pain relief too close to delivery, as well as a little bit about epidurals during this birth story episode.

Dr. Amelie is a pediatric physical therapist who specializes in gross motor development and wellness. She has worked in all areas of pediatric health, from hospitals to outpatient clinics, as well as home visits. Her own experience as a first time mom brought to light just how little education and support parents are given with regards to developmental milestones, gross motor skills, and essentially what the heck to do with a baby! Her goal in starting Grasping Gross Motor was to create a space where education is easy to understand and recommendations are realistic for parents to implement. She provides in-person pediatric physical therapy services, as well as in-person and virtual wellness sessions to help bridge the gap between what you're told in your pediatrician's office (or in your mom group) and what is actually going on in your everyday life.

Birth Story 8: Ashley's Home Births
One of Gina's doula clients, Ashley, will be sharing her two home birth stories. Ashley shares how her first birth was a precipitous labor, which left her feeling like she didn't get to enjoy her birth and felt out of control. Due to COVID fears and protocols, Ashley and her husband made a last minute switch to a home birth with Gina and a midwife. Her second birth, was planned to be a home birth from the start, was much slower, and she was able to experience both the prenatal and labor experiences in a new way. Both of her stories she felt were positive experiences, and she shares how she and her husband decided that home birth was the best and safest option for them.
