  • SA medical marijuana company Cilo Cybin is aiming for greater holdings and maybe a US listing. The R89-billion misery of petrol prices in South Africa
    • In the near future, Cilo Cybin Holdings intends to make other acquisitions in the biotech and medical cannabis industries.The group plans to list as a special purpose acquisition vehicle (SPAC) on the AltX on June 25 and hopes to go public in the US in the coming years. The company is searching both locally and internationally for the acquisition of distribution companies and other branded products. To provide further details, Gabriel Theron, the founder and CEO of Cilo Cybin, speaks to host Motheo Khoaripe.
    •  In the current fiscal year, the government anticipates earning over R89 billion from the general gasoline charge, which brings its total revenue over the last ten years to over R730 billion. Although this month's high prices for gasoline and diesel provided some respite for South Africans, the cost of fuel is still more than 50% more than it was two years ago and almost twice as high as it was ten years ago.
    • Telkom SA SOC Limited has released enhanced financial statements for the fiscal year that concluded on March 31, 2024, demonstrating a more resilient and powerful operational performance from the business. Despite inflationary pressures, the positive outcomes are achieved. The sustained demand for next-generation offerings was the primary driver of increased operating margins.
    • The Montana facility was purchased by Sibanye-Stillwater shortly before palladium prices surged. They have since collapsed, and the business is now compelled to renegotiate agreements related to its enormous debt.   • Youth's financial stability is at risk due to the increase in gaming. South Africa's tax crackdown on Shein and Temu
    • Young people are gambling more and more these days, frequently lured by the excitement of taking risks and the possibility of rapid financial gain. The Financial Section Conduct Authority (FSCA) is cautioning young people about the risks of gambling during Youth Month. Gambling may become an addiction and cause financial losses that can have a devastating impact on families. The idea of a government coalition including pro-nationalization parties like the EFF and MK has alarmed international businesses. According to Bloomberg, the South African bank stock index hit a record high earlier on Friday, rising about 6% at one point, marking the largest increase since November 2020.
