Narcissists (or people with NPD) seem to intrinsically know how to use other people to control a relationship. They nearly always have more than one source of narcissistic supply they can use against you. For example, they may triangulate you with a relative or friend.

They also use triangulation in dealing with third parties, even in online relationships, to elevate their self-esteem and further undermine their partners.

This behavior leaves partners feeling weak and desperate for the approval of others and often leads them to lose self-confidence and almost withdraw from life. Trauma bonding increases the level of intensity.

A narcissist has an unrealistic view of his or her abilities and a constant need for praise self-centered, tends to dominate in interactions with others, and has little regard for other people's feelings, along with difficulty acknowledging the views and needs of others.
