"Says WHO?"
Today's special guest, Dr Sherita Gaskins-Tillett shares her story of finding herself in a life after residency that was unrecognizable. Within a span of 2 years, she got married, had a baby, lost her grandmother and moved. Twice. All while working as a full-spectrum OB/GYN. When she realized that she didn't recognize herself within this life, she took action to rediscover herself, and create a life that she loves. She'll share how she and so many other women are living under a set of rules that don't really exist anywhere but our own minds, and how you can use her favorite question, "Says who?" to snap out of it.
Dr. Sherita Gaskins-Tillett is a board-certified Ob/Gyn and the founder of Level Up Lady Doc where she helps women physicians rediscover their bliss and reclaim control of their lives. Dr. Gaskins-Tillett is also the host of a weekly internet show, Level Up Live, where she showcases women physicians who are making phenomenal contributions both inside and outside of the exam room. She graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her Ob/Gyn residency at George Washington University. Dr. Gaskins-Tillett left clinical medicine in 2019 and now works as a medical director for an international insurance company. She currently resides in Severn, MD with her husband and 10 year old daughter.

I hate negative feedback. Always have.
But I fully recognize that I was never given tools to process feedback, understand my emotional responses, and turn it into something useful. So here I am, a full-blown adult, who has only recently learned how to do this gracefully. And today, I am sharing with you some tools that will help you learn to the same.
During the episode, I reference 2 prior episodes. Find them here:

Many Physicians find that they feel out of place in medicine. They might try several different jobs within their field, trying to fit in, but never develop a sense of belonging. For today's guest, Dr Rebecca Berens, this created a rocky road in her early career, until she decided that she was done trying to fit in. Instead, she decided to create her own Direct Primary Care Practice, and focus on the patients she is best skilled to serve.
Dr Berens graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and completed Family Medicine residency at Georgetown University/Providence Hospital in DC. She is now building a thriving DPC private practice in Houston, Vida Family Medicine. Outside of medicine she enjoys spending time with her kids, and sewing her own clothes for fun!

Residency is a time of intense growth and learning, coupled with great sacrifice and pressure to perform. It is in this pressure cooker that many perfectionist and people-pleasing habits are, well, perfected. Today I am speaking with Dr Tonya Caylor, a Family Medicine Physician and Certified Life Coach who coaches Residents and Faculty Physicians with an eye to preventing burnout. Listen in as she shares her own story, and why she is called to do this work.
Dr Tonya Caylor is a Family Medicine Physician and Certified Life Coach in Alaska. She is originally from Florida, and has spent over 20 years in both clinical and academic practice. She is currently focused on coaching work, but continues to see patients at her local community health center.

"Give 110%"
"Give it everything you got!"
These mantras are ubiquitous. And maybe there are moments where we want to do this. But for perfectionist high-achievers, especially highly empathic Women Physicians, this message is harmful. In "Everything is Negotiable," Professor Meg Myers Morgan lays out a powerful argument why women need to let go of this message, and in this episode I break down one of her 5 tactics, "never give it your all."
If you are an exhausted working woman, trying to pour 110% into all of the buckets in your world, this is a must-listen episode.

We might think that burnout is a one-and-done phenomenon. But sadly, it just isn't so. Burnout and overwhelm can strike us multiple times, though we may learn to respond to it quite differently, and understand it better. Such is the case of my friend and special guest, Dr. Kirin Palmer. She'll share how burnout cropped up in different settings, and how she has been able to learn from it and choose to create an exciting new path for herself.
Dr Palmer graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine and specialize in Pediatrics. She loves to dance hula, and spend time with her son. She will be opening her solo Pediatric Practice in Portland Oregon soon.

Are you an Empath? Do you connect easily with the feelings of others? Do you find your mood transformed, for better or for worse by those around you?
Empaths make great Physicians, but we tend to struggle under the weight of not only our own emotions, but also carrying, and sometimes even feeling responsible for the feelings of others. In this episode we'll drill in a bit more to this idea, and I will share 3 key ways for you to lighten your own load, without becoming a cynical curmudgeon.
And also, if you like what you hear, please share this episode with a fellow Empath!
