Ooh, today's episode hits a sore spot. I am talking, in depth, about what happens when we make a request, when we build up the courage to admit that we are struggling and need help, and our request is met with an unemotional "no." If you know, you know. Maybe you asked to drop your FTE, or to change your template or for them to replace the MA who left 6 months ago. We're going to take a deep dive into why this situation feels so hard, and how you can shake it off and move forward.

Ooh, tender spots here. But this is such a common theme that pops up for my clients and my friends, and 100% yes in myself that we have to talk about it. Not valuing yourself hurts you. And if you are struggling with perfectionism, procrastinating, people-pleasing, and it's causing difficulty closing notes, getting through your inbox, running behind, always being late, despite "working on it" this may be part of the problem. If you don't feel that you are enough, that you are "worth it," whatever "it" is (other people's time, the copay from patients, the time it takes to feed and take good care of yourself, etc), then no amount of habit change attempts will work. We have to get at this root cause.
The good news is, that even if this is you, once you recognize it and accept that this is happening, we can work on it. We can learn to think new thoughts, and cultivate new beliefs.
This is definitely an episode to share with a friend, so don't keep it to yourself!

Today we are talking about self-confidence, and how it is suffered along the rocky-road of the high achiever. We may experience confidence in particular skills that we have, because we have perfected those skills and obtained mastery. Self-confidence, which could also be called self-trust, is different; self-confidence doesn't require that you have done something before; it requires that you trust your ability to navigate a new challenge.

Phew, we made it to the last episode in the March 2023 series on habits, and today we're digging in on committing to the process. For me, goals that are centered on improving my health and wellbeing can be the hardest to follow through on, and I know that I am not alone. In today's episode we'll talk about how we use the goal to decide on a behavior or action step, and then we let go of the goal. This can create tremendous successes, and we may even find ourselves surpassing the goal; but along the way, we become someone with truly solid and impactful habits.

You can do hard things.
But, you don't always have to do things the hard way....
In today's episode, I share a tool from BJ Fogg's "Tiny Habits" book (which is an excellent read), and I invite you to give yourself permission to choose easy. It's literally baked in to the tool, and it can be a gamechanger.
If you would prefer to watch this as a video, I recorded a video version of this process as well so that I can show you how to do this. Click here for the video version on my YouTube channel.

Do you ever make a decision to change a habit, and struggle to follow through on it every single time?
Um, me neither...
Today I am sharing some insight from BJ Fogg's book, Tiny Habits: The Small Changes that Change Everything, and we are talking about the fundamental principle that our emotions create and reinforce our habits. If you want different habits, either to build a new one or to dismantle an unhelpful one, understanding this principle is key to success, so you'll want to tune in.

I think patients would be surprised by how many Physicians label themselves as procrastinators, too lazy to get stuff done; but this is a common concern that I hear, that we can't stop procrastinating.
On today's episode, we talk about why we procrastinate. It's not that Netflix is so entertaining, it's about preventing discomfort and emotions that we don't want to feel. Once we understand that, we can start to do the work of ending procrastination, one chart, or one push-up at a time.
