Eldridge 'Gus' Eatman is not a well-known name in Canada, but it should be. A century ago, Eatman was regarded as one of the fastest men on the planet: he was a world record-holder and world champion. He was also a soldier, all at a time when Black Canadians were not allowed to compete in amateur athletics or enlist in the army. His legacy is finally being recognized, thanks to a distant relative who unearthed his story and launched a mission to share it with the world.

Camille Herron is one of the most accomplished ultra runners of all time. Famously fuelled by tacos and beer, Camille crushes world records and demolishes her competition. Two weeks ago she broke the 48-hour women’s world record at the Sri Chinmoy 48-hour Festival and in doing so became the first woman to set an outright American record at any distance. In this episode we chat about this most recent accomplishment, the narrowing gap between women and men in the ultra running world, and getting better with age.

This episode is a rebroadcast of conversation from last year with Olympians Maddy Price and Georgia Simmerling. Georgia had just launched her company AG Sports Inc, which is the first female driven, female powered sports agency in Canada. Maddy, who was part of the Canadian 4x400m relay team that took 4th at the Tokyo Olympics, was one of AG Sports’ first clients. Georgia and Maddy talk about the value of women representing women, about the great strides made by our female athletes, and about what remains to be done to ensure gender equity in the sporting world.
