Kicking off another chapter of the podcast and diving into the year with some very exciting returning guests. Tim Gabbett, Sport Scientist and Workload Researcher from Australia and Scott Willgress, Ellie Black’s strength and conditioning coach share their ideas on workloads, wellness and strength and conditioning. This is the future of gymnastics, making sure athletes are not only performing to their best but also staying healthier.
I'm so excited to be joined by #GymnastAlliance founder Jennifer Pinches and her co-founder for Gymnast4Change Claire Heafford. We discuss the harsh reality of Gymnastics Culture change including the impact of Athlete A, and how we can move forward.
We appreciate you listening!

Today on the podcast we have a fellow physical therapist and specialist Annemarie Alf who has an amazing story. She shares her experience in PT and S&C working with the Chinese National Team becoming a performance consultant for them for the last 10 years. Working on change related to injuries and management but using strength and conditioning. We also talk honestly about what are we still missing in gymnastics, why aren’t they fast enough, why they have injuries, and why are they burning out?
We appreciate you listening!

This week on the podcast I was asked to do interview with Ryan Zeisloft who runs the Gifted Performance Podcast, he reached out to me and wanted to ask some questions related to gymnastics culture, long term athletic development, gymnast’s lifting weights and the gymnastics alliance movement. We talk about so many different things that I think are doing to be fundamentally important in gymnastics moving forward.

With the launch of SHIFT HQ I raffled off a free consult with my self and regular podcast guest, my close friend and director of the YMCA gymnastics centres in Boston Eva Shute. Katie was the consult winner and we sat down for an hour and half and talked about icing controversy and injuries, how to gain flexibility and make it stick and the science behind that. But also some harder conversations; how to help athletes with high level goals get to where they want to be, when you have other athletes that don’t have the same expectations. How do you keep all those athletes motived and give them what they need, and not have any cultural issues with friction between those gymnasts.

On this episode of the podcast I have a very important conversation with former Elite Gymnast and now Coach Luke Carson around all things mental health. An open honest conversation about the pandemic and being in gymnastics right now with the recent scandals and publicity around culture change. It's a tough time for those working in gymnastics to keep a good head space; we discuss how to have a better open conversation about anxiety, depression and stress and what people can do to de-stigmatise these issues. Sharing are own personal stories and what we did to help us move forward.
