The Universe Within Podcast

Hey everybody! Episode 46 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Joey Greenstone. Joey was introduced to me by mutual friends who had worked with him, and they both spoke very highly of him. Joey works with the Andean plant medicine Wachuma (also Huachuma or San Pedro). We spoke about Joey’s background, his voyage into the world of plant medicines, what he has learned, some of the pitfalls, and how he has emerged as a guide who looks to help by sharing this ancient knowledge. I really enjoyed speaking with Joey, connecting on a personal level, and learned from him about a plant that is very dear to him. I hope you all will get a lot out of this episode. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

"Joey Greenstone is an accomplished Wachumero (San Pedro Shaman) with more than 12 years of experience working with plant spirit medicines. He is an expert medicine maker, and skilled at using song and sound vibration to facilitate healing and transformation within his healing ceremonies. Joey is also a talented counselor and spiritual life coach, drawing upon the wisdom not only of plant medicine, but many consciousness traditions from around the world in order to assist his clients in affecting healing and growth in their lives. He resides in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas, in the Andes mountains, where he also leads conscious tours to the many sacred sites and places of power within Peru.”

Hey everybody! Episode 45 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Tree Carr. Tree was introduced to me by a mutual friend, Luis, who I interviewed in episode 25. Tree is a Death Doula and a Dreaming Guide. I find these two topics fascinating, because for me, if this path with plants and shamanism had to be boiled down to two topics, death and dreaming could certainly be seen as two of the fundamental pillars. So it was fascinating for me to be able to speak with Tree who specializes in exactly these two areas. Tree has a beautiful way of expressing herself and bringing these, sometimes abstract ideas, into very easy language and concepts, which isn’t an easy thing to do. This interview with Tree was a real pleasure, as can be seen by the fact that we went almost four hours! We got into a variety of topics including her background, death and dying, dreams, plant work, divination, and even witches! As Tree said, the word witch, often misunderstood, comes from Wicca, meaning wisdom. And I think in that sense Tree really embodies and expresses that wisdom beautifully. I trust you all will get a lot out of this episode. To view bonus material, get early access to shows, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below.

"Tree is a published author and her book ‘DREAMS: How to Connect With Your Dreams to Enrich Your Life’, was released Dec. 2018 with Octopus Publishing. Her second book on dreams called ‘Conscious Dreamer’’ to be released May 2021 with Quarto Publishing Group.

As a Dreaming Guide, Tree helps those seeking to activate, explore and further understand their dream realms by cultivating a bespoke daily dreaming practise... She is also booked for one on one dreaming guidance where the session delves into dream interpretation, meditations, rescripting of recurring dreams and methods for lucid dreaming. Tree works closely with oneirogens ( dreaming plants and herbs) as part of her conscious dreaming practise and facilitates workshops and ceremonies to connect people more deeply into their dream-work vis-a -vis the world of plants and herbs.

Tree is also a CPD Crossfields Institute Certified Death Doula. Her work as an End of Life Guide involves helping people spiritually, emotionally, existentially and practically at the end of their lives...”

Hey everybody! Episode 44 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Roman Hanis. I have known about Roman since I arrived in the Amazonian jungles of Peru. And having worked in this field for the past decade, I've come to hear about many centers and people working with these medicines. It's rare to only hear good things about a place, but that's just the case with the Paititi Institute, which Roman founded. In this interview, Roman and I discussed myriad topics from his background and work, to ancient traditions, sacred plants medicines, learning, and healing. Roman has a beautiful way of expressing himself and putting, often esoteric or abstract ideas, into very understandable dialogue. I find Roman's view of the work and world of plant medicine to closely parallel mine, and so it was a pleasure to hear his point of view based on many years of personal and interpersonal work. Roman is one of the wiser voices in this field and this interview turned out to be one of my favorites in terms of the depth and knowledge that he shared. I hope and think you all will gain a lot from this interview. To view bonus material, get access to Q&A’s, and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Roman Hanis has been working closely with the indigenous Peruvian cultures in the Amazonian rainforest and Andean mountains since 2001. During this time he has devoted this life to learning the ancient healing ways of these cultures while seeking possibilities for creating ecological sources of sustenance for local populations and working to preserve the rainforest and its spiritual heritage of sacred medicinal plants…

In 2002, Roman was fortunate enough to be cured of a terminal genetic illness , Crohn’s disease. In 2004, he was pledged as a healer-curandero by the Whitoto and Yahua tribes and has served the international community as a medicine man ever since…

He speaks Spanish, Hebrew, Russian and English.

Roman looks forward to eradicating suffering in the world and its cause, ignorance, by promoting education on the possibilities of more sustainable, harmonious relationships with nature, while simultaneously creating supportive, self-sustaining and nurturing communities.”

Hey everybody! Episode 43 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Mike Brancatelli. Mike and I met when he came to the Amazonian plant healing center the Temple of the Way of Light. We hit it off right away, both coming from New York and having an interest in the ideals of Liberty. I’ve been on Mike’s podcast twice, so it was great for me to finally have him on mine. We got into myriad topics including his background, his podcast, comedy, psychedelics, the effort he is a part of in the decriminalization movement in Colorado, men’s groups, and the ideals of Liberty and why they are so important, especially in the times we are living in. I always really enjoy speaking with Mike and I think you all will enjoy this conversation and hopefully get a lot out of it. To view bonus material, get access to Q&A’s, and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

"For the last 5 years, I've been the host of Mikeadelic podcast. I also have a new comedy show out right now on patreon.com/mikebranc that will be launching publicly in the summer. Some episodes of the new show entitled Dosadelic are out on the Mikeadelic pod feed. From 2014-2016,  I was the co-host of Part Of The Problem podcast with comedian Dave Smith, a libertarian comedy podcast. I am a psychonaut, a facilitator, cultivator, and have been intentionally working with high doses of mushrooms and ayahuasca since 2014. I performed stand-up comedy in NYC, backpacked around Southeast Asia, worked at an ayahuasca center in the Peruvian Amazon, and helped the campaign to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms in Denver. I also do podcast consulting, voice-over acting, characters, and impressions. I'm currently focused on holding rites of passage/ initiation retreats, and hosting men’s work retreats in Colorado, and am currently offering 1 on 1 "coaching" sessions. Soon, I will be doing live podcasts and shows again. I consider myself to be a comedian, activist, heterodox thinker, anarchist, and paradox holder. I am focused on spreading the message of liberty and healing through entertainment. ”

Hey everybody! Episode 41 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Stefan Kistler. Stefan and I met about a decade ago when we both arrived in the Peruvian Amazon. Stefan has been living and working in the Amazon focusing on indigenous peoples’ rights and forest conservation. We got into a lot of topics around these issues as well as some of his personal story and how his work and thoughts have grown and shifted over the years. We also spoke about how plant medicines can play a big part in creating sustainable livelihood for indigenous peoples. Many of these topics are important issues and I think it’s wonderful to hear from people like Stefan who have been working on the ground day in and day out for many years now. I have a lot of respect for Stefan and all of the hard work he has been doing. I think you all will enjoy this conversation and hopefully learn a lot from it and from him. To view bonus material, get access to Q&A’s, and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

"Stefan is a political ecologist, holding a Bachelor degree in Development Studies from the University of Oslo and a Master of Science in International Environmental Studies from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås. Since 2008, and throughout his professional career, Stefan has worked at the interface of indigenous peoples’ rights and forest conservation. He worked for almost five years as Program Coordinator at the Rainforest Foundation Norway, first in the Congo Basin and afterwards in Peru, and previously also led the environmental justice program of Alianza Arkana. He thus has varied experiences with project management, indigenous peoples’ rights, intercultural education, environmental management, advocacy and civil society activism. Stefan is originally from Switzerland, but has been living most of his adult live abroad (Norway in particular). Since 2012, he has been living in Iquitos and first joined Chaikuni in early 2017 as Coordinator of the Intercultural Education Program.”

Hey everybody! Episode 40 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Beth Weinstein. Beth has been working with plant medicines for a number of years and has been focusing on how to integrate what she and her clients have learned to create a path forward in life. She focuses on what she calls spiritual business and entrepreneurship. This is a really important topic as I find many people who I work with come to plant medicines out of a desire to find what they are truly called to do in life with their work. She is also the founder and host of the “Psychedelics, Sacred Medicines, Purpose and Business” summit, where she interviews some amazing guests. We got into some really interesting topics and discussions, and I really enjoyed this conversation. I think you all will enjoy this conversation too and hopefully learn a lot from it. Hey everybody! Episode 39 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Aline Horwath. Aline and I are actually neighbors at the moment during the pandemic and I often admire her beautiful garden. Aline is a botanist and plant biologist who has been studying mosses to find data about climate change. It was really interesting for me to hear about her research and learn more about the plant kingdom through her lens and knowledge. She has a lot to share and we got into some really beautiful themes about plants, the world, and the human condition. I think you all will enjoy this conversation and learn a lot. To view bonus material, get access to Q&A’s, and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

"Aline is a canopy biologist fascinated by the hidden wonders of the unexplored canopy, especially in tropical montane cloud forests. Since 2007, Aline has been involved in ecophysiological studies related to climate change. Her main focus has been the use of stable isotopes and epiphytic bryophytes (mosses and liverworts) as climatic indicators in tropical ecosystems. Since 2013 Aline has been working as a freelance scientist, educator, field-botanist, and canopy biologist in India, Trinidad & Tobago, Europe, and Peru.

In addition to being passionate about plant conservation, habitat restoration, soil regeneration and natural agriculture, Aline is dedicated to the practice and sharing of yoga, meditation, and the study of medicinal plants.”

Hey everybody! Episode 38 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Ute Behrendt. Ute and I met at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where she works as a facilitator for plant-medicine ceremonies working with the Shipibo lineage of medicine. I’ve worked with Ute for a number of years now and really enjoy her partnership, wisdom, kindness, and care for all of the guests she looks after. She has had a varied and interesting life including working in psychiatric hospitals and in therapeutic institutions in Germany. She has also spent a number of years learning from a strong Shipibo family of doctors. I think this gives her a really balanced and holistic approach to her work. She is constantly learning and growing and has a lot of insight to offer. I think you all will enjoy this conversation and learn a lot. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

"Over the last years, Ute has dedicated herself to learn and study with long-term Masterplant Diets in a well-known and respected Shipibo Healer lineage in the Ucayali region in Peru. She sees herself as a bridge between ancestral wisdom and Western understanding of life.  Besides studying in the Shipibo Tradition with Sacred Plants and her Shipibo Maestros, she also is studying different psycho-spiritual approaches to understand the mind and human experience better. For Ute, Psychology and Spirituality are not separate when you want to experience wholeness. She is fascinated about integrating and connecting different approaches and using different pathways to find and explore inner truth…

She is organizing Masterplant Retreats & Diets and works as a facilitator in a well-known Ayahuasca Center. She also provides online psycho-spiritual inquiry sessions and mentoring packages.  She believes that everyone has their own answers and wisdom inside, and that’s why she is focusing on questions and letting answers unfold by themselves…

Before she moved to Peru, she worked in a psychiatric hospital and in therapeutic institutions in Germany for almost 10 years… In Peru, working and studying with the Shipibo Healers and Sacred Plant Medicine, she found the missing link.”

Hey everybody! Episode 37 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Will Spencer. Will and I met at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where he came down as a guest to work with ayahuasca in the Shipibo lineage. I befriended Will and followed his journey as it transpired from there onto a four-year journey around the world in a search for inner and outer discovery. Will has experience working with plant medicines and has a deep interest and knowledge about various esoteric traditions. He also recently started a podcast, called the Renaissance of Men, where he tries to discover and teach what it means to be an integrated man. Will has a lot of knowledge and wisdom to share and it was a pleasure sitting down and speaking with him. The podcast went almost four hours but we delved into myriad topics and I think you will gain some unique insights and potentially be exposed to some new and important ideas. "Eight years ago, my life was a mess. I was overweight, filled with grief and shame, and pursuing the wrong goals for the wrong reasons. Then I found strong men who held a mirror up to me and helped me see, “You can’t get there from here.”
Two years later, I had turned my life around. I even liberated myself to pursue my personal Hero’s Journey: solo backpacking around the world, which I fulfilled to wild success.
Along the way I discovered my mission, my “Why”: to pass on what I’ve learned about what it means to be a man. Now I create transformation in my brothers, guiding them to Purpose, Passion, and a Place of honor in their lives, just as I found mine."
