  • Your Summer Hormone Detox

Are you having hormonal issues that you’re looking to overcome? How can you start eliminating the symptoms that you’re having? My Summer Hormone Detox Program may just be what you need! Find out what it’s all about and get the support that you’re looking for!

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • What my Summer Hormone Detox Program is all about
    • Who my Summer Hormone Detox Program is for
    • All the goodies that you can get from my Summer Hormone Detox Program
    • What you can expect from the Hormone and Support Masterclass

    Key Takeaways:

    • The Summer Hormone Detox Program is a program that uses nutrition as a foundation. You get a 7-day detox meal plan that works specifically to detox out excess estrogen, support liver detoxification and support your thyroid.
    • Your hormones need fat to function and they also balance and stabilize your blood sugar, so you really do need to include those healthy fats in your diet.
    • Following the meal plan for 7 days doesn’t mean that you’re going to eliminate all your symptoms in 7 days. It’s about creating that foundation so that you can start eliminating these symptoms over time.
    • The more frequently we eat throughout the day, the more we spike our blood sugar and the more chances of causing imbalanced hormones and putting on weight.

    Action Steps:

    • Make a commitment to spend more time outdoors and get your daily dose of Vitamin D.
    • Enjoy Mother Nature by going outside and breathing in fresh air, and maybe getting your feet on the grass or swimming in the lake.
    • Support your liver in the detoxification process by giving it the amino acids that it needs and getting in lots of antioxidants in your diet.
    • Cut back on snacking and just stick to eating three meals a day. But if you really can’t help it, choose the right snacks that are going to help support and balance your blood sugar.

    Samantha said:

“It’s really about empowering you so that you can better understand your hormonal health and your physiology and really make empowered choices for yourself… It’s really about creating this trickle-down effect so that we can all heal and support each other…”

“When it comes to balancing hormones, what goes on the skin goes in. And we really need to support our hormonal health by ditching the beauty care chemicals and the toxins.”

    Thanks for listening!

I hope to see you in the Summer Hormone Detox Program! It’s going to be a delicious way to detox and support your body!

  • Pre-Conception Planning + Culinary Nutrition

What does preconception planning look like, and when is the best time to start? Toronto-based author, speaker, nutritionist, and founder of the Academy of Culinary Nutrition Meghan Telpner shares her own experience with preconception planning, miscarriage and pregnancy, and post-pregnancy. Hopefully, you, too, will be empowered to become your own best health expert and be inspired to find your own unique path to optimal health.

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • The UnDiet revolution
    • How Meghan’s own diet transitioned from diet to undiet
    • Meghan’s experience with miscarriage
    • What preconception planning looks like
    • The essentials you need to have during pregnancy
    • How to manage your diet post-pregnancy
    • Diet for babies

    Key Takeaways:

    • The best time to start to start preconception planning is right now.
    • There are people who have healthy vegan pregnancies, but if your body is not getting the fats that you need and your body is asking for more protein and fat, it can be really challenging. It’s important not to deny what your body is naturally trying to communicate that it needs and to follow what you feel is best for you and your baby.
    • Through anecdotal evidence, it seems that a miscarriage is incredibly common before sustaining a healthy pregnancy.
    • The pill is completely toxic and will mess with your hormones potentially for the rest of your life unless you take active measures to clean up the damage that it does nutrient-wise and hormonally-wise.
    • The most effective way that women detoxify is through the placenta, into their unborn child, so the least amount of chemicals that end up in your body, the less work you have to do immediately before becoming pregnant.
    • The microbiome of your gut becomes the first microbiome of your child.
    • If you’re bringing a human into the world, the least you can do is get the toxins out of your life.

    Action Steps:

    • Modify your diet according to what works best for you.
    • Detoxify and start living a clean lifestyle. Get rid of the products that contain toxic and unsafe ingredients.
    • Always have good protein sources and healthy snacks in your pantry.

    Meghan said:

“I think that if we can bring humor and fun and joy into the process of living our lives, that’s beyond half the batter towards feeling good inside and out.”

“The time to start preconception planning is today. It doesn’t matter how old you are. If you’re 15 or you’re 25 or you’re 35, if you want to have children in your lifetime, you have to start now.”

  • How to Test for Hormonal Imbalances

Do you find yourself waking up with anxiety or being unable to sleep at night? Or do you have trouble losing weight no matter how hard you try? Dr. Carrie Jones talks about some of the problems caused by hormonal imbalances and how the DUTCH Test can help us find solutions to these issues. Hopefully, this will help you gain some insights into the different puzzles that make up our health, our hormones, and our vitality.

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • What is the DUTCH Test?
    • What happens when your hormones go down a bad pathway and what can you do about it?
    • How long after implementing some strategies to address your hormones can you do a re-test?
    • Does blood testing serve a purpose?
    • When is the right time in your cycle should you get testing done?
    • What is cycle mapping and what can you get from it?
    • Why is it important that your liver metabolizes your hormones?
    • What is the difference between cortisol and cortisone?
    • What does it mean when you have very low levels of free cortisol and high levels of metabolized cortisol and vice versa?

    Key Takeaways:

    • DUTCH stands for Dry Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones, a test that shows whether your hormones are going down a bad pathway, which allows you to become proactive and do something about it.
    • Women can have a hormonal imbalance at any age; and men can have a hormonal imbalance, too.
    • More recently, the DUTCH Tests have been updated to include nutritional organic acids and the neurotransmitter metabolites.
    • The cortisol awakening response is where your cortisol is supposed to shoot up in the first 30 to 60 minutes of when you wake up. And if you don’t get it right, if it stays low or if it shoots up too high, then you’re not going to get anything else right.

    Action Steps:

    • Consider doing a DUTCH Test.
    • Take the necessary steps to balance your hormones and make sure they’re going down the good pathway.

    Dr. Carrie Jones said:

“Your genes, they dictate a lot, but there’s a lot you can do to change it. And just because you have the mutation, it doesn’t mean everything is 100%... Just because you have the mutation, it’s entirely possible other things have made up for it.”

“Hormones are a luxury but stress is not. The body is designed to deal with fight or flight, and whether or not you ovulate has no bearing on you living. You can not ovulate for the rest of your life and you will still live, but if don’t have cortisol, you will die.”

    Samantha said:

“Your genes load the gun but your lifestyle pulls the trigger.”

    Thanks for listening!

  • AIP Diet + Coffee Enemas + Working Out + Thinning Hair & Your Thyroid

I have another Q&A episode in store for you today! I love doing these episodes because I love answering your questions, so keep them coming and enjoy the podcast!

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • What is the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) diet?
    • What is a coffee enema and how is it the same as or different from a colonic?
    • Should you work out if you have adrenal fatigue?
    • What do you use on your hair when you notice that it’s thinning?

    Key Takeaways:

    • The AIP diet focuses on eliminating gut irritants from your diet. It’s similar to the Paleo diet but restricts a lot more. It works on healing the gut by eliminating certain foods that cause inflammation, which gives rise to gut issues, which in turn causes autoimmune diseases.
    • If you are having autoimmune issues and adrenal fatigue, it’s time for you to slow down and shift to lower-intensity exercises and focus more on the healing aspect.
    • If you have a low-functioning thyroid, you have high-functioning adrenals. So if you’ve got thyroid issues, that means you’ve also got adrenal issues.

    Action Steps:

    • Consider doing the AIP diet especially if you have autoimmune issues.
    • Try doing a colonic first before jumping into doing a coffee enema.
    • Cut down on how often you wash your hair and switch to more natural products.
    • Consider getting a thyroid testing done.

    Samantha said:

“Coffee enemas are amazing and they’re a great tool and detox protocol that will help with detoxification and, of course, help support gut health.”

“Movement is important, absolutely, but movement doesn’t have to come in the form of high intensity… and so find something that’s a little bit lower intensity and do that and still focus on moving your body, but really respect that process of healing because it does need time.”

    Thanks for listening!

  • Balancing Hormones with Essential Oils

Whether you’re new to essential oils or have been using them for quite some time, this episode is packed with valuable information that you wouldn’t want to miss! Dr. Mariza Snyder shares the best way to use essential oils for hormone balance, how we can use essential oils to manage stress, and so much more!

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • The best way to use essential oils for hormone balance
    • How we can use essential oils to lower our stress and cortisol levels and support adrenal function
    • The must-have essential oils when we are traveling
    • How to differentiate a high-quality essential oil from a low-quality one
    • The areas at home that we can use essential oils to reduce the toxic load

    Key Takeaways:

    • One of the first steps to really get radical self-healing is self-awareness, where we are able to really become aware of how we are feeling, whether it’s feeling drained, exhausted, energized, or overly stressed, and how we begin to implement changes.
    • Essential oils are able to bridge the gap between wanting healthy behaviors and habits and actually doing them.
    • Essential oils are not synthetic hormones, but they work with our adrenals and they work with helping to balance that interplay between estrogen and progesterone.
    • Dr. Mariza Snyder’s hormone blend: Place 10 drops of Clary Sage + 8 drops of Lavender + 8 drops of Geranium + 4 drops of Bergamot + 4 drops of Ylang-Ylang in a 10ml roller, and top it off with whatever carrier oil you prefer.
    • Essential oils are the ultimate swap for the toxic products that you have at home as long as you have a couple of other key ingredients. For green cleaning, that’s just baking soda, vinegar, distilled water and essential oils.

    Action Steps:

    • Start your day with a morning ritual and end with an evening ritual.
    • Lower your stress levels by doing the “power of the pause” breathwork with a combination of lavender and bergamot essential oils until you get back to a calm state of being.
    • Swap your toxic products at home for safer DIY products using essential oils.

    Dr. Mariza Snyder said:

“What I had found is that oils really made a lot of those healthy habits fun and rewarding and joyful, and that was awesome to me. And not only was it just a fun experience, but they really have these beautiful chemical constituents…”

“A good friend of mine and one of my favorite aromatherapists and a mentor to me used to say, ‘You know what? The cool thing about essential oils is that you literally get to choose your mood. You can choose the way that you want to feel because of oils.’”

    Thanks for listening!

  • How to Heal Estrogen Dominance

What happens when you have high estrogen levels, and what can you do about it? If you want to learn more about estrogen dominance, this podcast is chock-full with the information that will help you avoid it or heal it, and inspire you to make that change to hormonal health!

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • What is estrogen dominance?
    • What are the symptoms of estrogen dominance?
    • What are some causes of estrogen dominance?
    • What can we do to heal estrogen dominance?

    Key Takeaways:

    • Estrogen dominance for women is the condition of having far too much estrogen in relation to other hormones, in particular, progesterone in the body.
    • With the overexposure that we have to plastics, chemicals, environmental toxins, food toxins, and stress, there is a good chance that many people are dealing with estrogen dominance.
    • One of the main reasons why there has been a noticeable rise in estrogen dominance among women is because the use of the birth control pill has become so popular.
    • The more fat cells you have, the more estrogen you will make. And the more estrogen you make, the more fat you will store.

    Action Steps:

    • Do a DUTCH test or a saliva test to find out where your hormone levels are at.
    • Limit your soy and coffee intake.
    • Find a healthier alternative to the birth control pill.
    • Avoid personal care products that contain xenoestrogens and other toxic chemicals.
    • Filter your water and drink out of glass or stainless steel.
    • Eat enough fiber and choose organic as much as possible.
    • Dry brush.
    • Ditch the plastic.
    • Manage your stress.
    • Take supplements that can help with estrogen dominance.

    Samantha said:

“The pill is really going to create the perfect storm for hormonal imbalances.”

“It’s really important to support a healthy body weight and to support detoxification overall.”

    • Starting a detox program and doing a parasite cleanse
    • Where I shop for clothes
    • The collagen brands I use and how I use them
    • Getting off the pill and having issues with fertility

    Key Takeaways:

    • It’s common to have PMS cravings around your cycle.
    • A combination of healthy fats, protein and fruits and vegetables in your diet is essential to combating sugar cravings.
    • Getting different types of animal fats in your diet is really important as they are very nutrient-dense and great for supporting hormonal health.
    • Oftentimes, when we are craving for something or we are hungry, it might really mean that we are dehydrated and we are not drinking enough water.
    • Lack of magnesium is typically the reason why we crave a lot of chocolate.
    • The number one way to support detoxification is with your diet.
    • After getting off the pill, you really need to give your body time to heal and time for your hormones to readjust again. It might take six months to even up to a year for you to get your period back.

    Action Steps:

    • Take a look at your diet overall and create that clean, healthy foundation in your diet. Are you getting in enough healthy fats? Are you getting in a variety of fruits and vegetables? Are you getting in enough quality protein sources?
    • Make sure to always drink enough water.
    • Set aside a year to heal your body after getting off the pill before you consider getting pregnant.

    Samantha said:

“Your hormones need fat to function.”

“You are literally detoxing every second of every day.”

  • Tip to Glowing Skin, Safe Sun Protection & Toxic Chemicals in Your Products

Are you excited to have fun under the sun this summer? Naturopathic doctor and clear skin expert Dr. Jen Newell shares some really great insights and advice about taking care of our skin, what brands to choose and what to look for in a sunblock. It’s a really great conversation to have as we head into the summer months but also to have beautiful, clear, glowing skin all year round.

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • Why sun care is important
    • The difference between UVA and UVB rays
    • What the SPF number tells us
    • What ingredients to look for and what ingredients to avoid
    • How to treat sunburn
    • What to do with hormonal acne
    • What really happens to our skin and our hormones when we apply toxic products on our skin
    • Clean beauty care and the clean beauty brands you should check out
    • Caring for your skin from the inside out
    • Customized cosmetic procedures

    Key Takeaways:

    • Applying sunscreen is the best thing that we can do to reduce the signs of aging. About 90% of the signs of aging that we actually see on our skin is due to sun exposure since childhood.
    • It’s important to consider not only the SPF but whether or not the sunscreen is broad spectrum
    • Antioxidants amplify the benefits of your sunscreen and help undo some of the damage that’s been done to the cells.
    • When zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is included in the ingredients of a product, then it has some degree of sun protection.
    • A lot of the topical acne treatments that are available in drugstores actually have ingredients in them that prime the skin for more pimples later.
    • The ingredients that are in cosmetics are becoming a women’s health issue because they affect hormones so strongly.
    • Our skin is not a sponge. It’s a great barrier that’s meant and designed to block things from being absorbed. Unfortunately, synthetically-produced ingredients that are causing hormonal imbalances often act as accelerators and amplify the absorption of other ingredients.

    Action Steps:

    • Wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen on a daily basis even when it’s cloudy.
    • Use aloe vera on sunburns.
    • Choose a moisturizer that contains antioxidants.
    • Keep yourself hydrated.
    • Use clean beauty products.

    Dr. Newell says:

“Your skin is a great barometer of internal health.”

“Eating every color of the rainbow is key.”

    Thanks for listening!

  • Owning Your Power + Creating Possibility & Achieving Success Without Losing Yourself

Have you ever experienced burnout in your life or thought that there was something missing in it? What about the thought that there’s something more for you to do, more for you to become and more for you to achieve? Is it even possible to reach your goals and live a life of purpose without losing yourself on the path to success? This is such an important conversation to have and one that my good friend and leadership consultant, Oliver Manalese, shares his expertise. Let’s dive in!

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • What is aligned reinvention and how important it is for women to do
    • What to do when you feel stuck
    • The steps that we can take to move into what’s possible for our future
    • Managing self-expectations
    • How you can succeed without losing yourself
    • That thing you do that limits your possibility
    • How our survival mechanism works
    • How you can step into your essence

    Key Takeaways:

    • Strategies have their own limitations because they’re just a tool. The deep inner work you need to do is to really develop yourself to become the best driver of whatever strategy you choose in life.
    • All the tools and strategies that got you to the success that you are now are not going to get you to the possibility of who you could be.
    • To lose yourself means letting the things that are genuinely important to you wither away and die because you are chasing something else.
    • How to not lose yourself is to be honest and acknowledge that you are in fact turning your back on things that are important to you.

    Action Steps:

    • Acknowledge what it is actually costing you to be living the life that you are living right now and not stepping into your potential.
    • Be clear about what you actually really want for yourself.
    • Determine where you are relative to where you want to be in life.
    • Figure out the next step that you have to do in order to win and look at all the other things that come with the choice that you’re making.
    • Show in your actions the things that are important to you. Don’t just say it, do it.
    • Deconstruct the cycle that you constantly do that is limiting yourself.

    Oliver says:

“Sometimes the biggest barrier to a great life is a good life.”

“We all need to be playing a role in managing our own expectations of ourselves.”

  • Food Sensitivities and Your Hormones + Skin Health & Digestion

Do you want to learn more about food sensitivities and how they are related to your hormones? Perk up your ears as the creator of the Maxim Movement, Dr. Andrea Maxim shares so much goodness on today’s podcast.

    Topics Discussed in this Episode:

    • The first step towards treating and supporting our hormones
    • Causes of inflammation in our gut
    • How we can reintroduce foods that we avoided during the treatment of our gut
    • Why we should pay attention to skin care and the importance of getting off the dead top layer of skin
    • Nutritional protocols for women suffering from things like estrogen dominance, PMS, and PMDD
    • Herbs and homeopathies to treat hormonal imbalance
    • What we can do in our everyday life that’s going to create this healthy foundation for healthy hormones

    Key Takeaways:

    • When it comes to hormonal problems, everything stems down to your digestive system.
    • Food sensitivity is the number one thing we have to be ruling out and treating.
    • A food sensitivity is not an allergy. It’s based more on the immune system’s reaction to the proteins in those foods so it’s not something that you’re always going to have the exact same reaction with
    • Most of the skin cancers that happen are actually at the dead skin layer right at the top surface of your skin. If you don’t do exfoliation or any type of skin treatment to remove that dead skin layer, malnourished, misshapen cells could actually start to lend to worse things like skin cancers.
    • Natural remedies and natural ways of treating the body are not drugs and so they take a longer time to work.
    • When your body is starting to show you these signs and symptoms, like fatigue, brain fog, skin changes, joint issues, etc., one of the big factors that you might be missing or not taking into consideration is giving your body the basic nutrients that it needs.
    • Women’s brains don’t compartmentalize very well and are constantly all over the place (logical, emotional, spiritual, personal, etc.). We’ re using up our resources at a much faster rate, so we have to be nourishing our body.

    Action Steps:

    • Do gentle exfoliation two to three times a week and get skin treatment like wet microdermabrasion once every two to three months.
    • Keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water
    • Use herbs in combination rather than just one on its own.
    • Eliminate any form of dairy in your diet.
    • Nourish your body well.
    • Go to bed before 10:30.

    Dr. Maxim said:

“Acknowledge how busy or stressed out your lifestyle is and nourish accordingly.”

“Learn to just be unwaveringly selfish.”
