Welcome to episode #648 of Six Pixels of Separation.
Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #648 - Host: Mitch Joel. This is the type of human being that the world (and business) desperately needs today. Kate O'Neill is helping humanity prepare for an increasingly tech-driven future by teaching business how to be successful with human-centric data and technology. Kate's expertise comes from more than 20 years of experience and entrepreneurship leading innovations across technology, marketing, and operations. She created the first content management role at Netflix, was founder & CEO of [meta]marketer - a first-of-its-kind analytics and digital strategy agency, led the online optimization work at Magazines.com, developed Toshiba America's first intranet, and held leadership and advisory positions in a variety of other start-ups. Kate is now founder of KO Insights, a consultancy committed to improving human experience at scale. Kate is the author of four books including her latest, Tech Humanist (and we can't forget Pixels And Place). How do we make technology better for business and humans alike? Let's find out. Enjoy the conversation...
Welcome to episode #646 of Six Pixels of Separation.
Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #646 - Host: Mitch Joel. It's a pretty amazing life. Karen Wickre has been involved in the communications space for a very long time. She's based in Silicon Valley, sits on many boards and has even been written about quite a few times (check out Chip Conley's latest book, Wisdom @ Work for more about her abilities to be an executive whisperer and EQ guide). A veteran editor, curator, content strategist and connector of people and ideas, Karen is super-passionate about all forms of communication. She really has done it all from writing one of the very first consumer books about the Web (in 1995!) to working in content strategy for Sapient. With that, she is best known for being an integral part of Google's communications and public affairs, before moving on to become the Editorial Director at Twitter. Now, she is out on her own and has published her latest book, Taking the Work Out of Networking - An Introvert's Guide to Making Connections That Count. It's an excellent read for those who want to think differently about making connections that really count, and add value in their life by building out a strong community. Enjoy the conversation...
Welcome to episode #645 of Six Pixels of Separation.
Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #645 - Host: Mitch Joel. When I first met Dan Schawbel (many years back), my reaction was, "who is this kid trying to make such a loud noise?" The passion was oozing out of him. Dan had a real fire in his belly. What a wild and successful ride he has been on. He is the bestselling author of Promote Yourself and Me 2.0. He's a Partner and Research Director at Future Workplace, and the Founder of both Millennial Branding and WorkplaceTrends.com. Through his companies, he's conducted dozens of research studies on the workplace, along with some of the world's biggest brands. He's also interviewed over 2000 of the most successful people in the world including Warren Buffett, Anthony Bourdain, Jessica Alba, Sheryl Sandberg, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is the host of 5 Questions with Dan Schawbel. Most recently, he published his third book, Back to Human - How Great Leaders Create Connection in the Age of Isolation, which looks at work in our modern and connected age. Enjoy the conversation...
Welcome to episode #644 of Six Pixels of Separation.
I'm a big fan of the Thinkers50. It's a list of smart people who are (and have) made a significant difference in how we think about business and the work that we do today. Many of the past guests on Six Pixels of Separation are on the list. Dan Pontefract was kind enough to introduce me to one of the Thinkers50 co-founders, Stuart Crainer. Stuart is the former editor of London Business School's award-winning magazine Business Strategy Review. His book credits include The Management Century and a biography of the management guru Tom Peters (Tom is a personal favourite "thinker" of mine!). He has taught in the International MBA at IE Business School and in executive education programs around the world, including the Strategic Leadership programme at Oxford University. Stuart is a Visiting Professor at Warwick Business School. He is also the author of Atlantic Crossing, based on his experiences sailing the Atlantic. So, who are some of the best thinkers of the day? What are they working on? What are some of the bigger trends in business today? Enjoy the conversation...
Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - Episode #643 - Host: Mitch Joel. I'm just a superfan nerd for all things Susan David. I thought that her 2016 book, Emotional Agility, was one of the smartest (and most relevant) books for individuals and leaders. I had the pleasure of connecting with Susan and becoming friends in the past short while. If you didn't know, Susan is an award-winning Psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, co-founder and co-director of the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, and CEO of Evidence Based Psychology. Emotional Agility is a concept that Harvard Business Review heralded as a Management Idea of the Year (no joke), and has been featured... well... everywhere! An in-demand speaker, advisor, and coach, Susan has worked with the senior leadership of hundreds of major organizations, including the United Nations, Ernst & Young, and the World Economic Forum. Susan is also on the core faculty of the global program Homeward Bound, which culminates in an all-women expedition to Antarctica and is being filmed as a documentary. The program aims at increasing the influence and impact of women in the sciences. You should also check out her TED Talk, The gift and power of emotional courage (close to four million views!). I'm thrilled that she agreed to do this. Enjoy the conversation...
