Culturally, we are moving towards higher levels of division and speed. Everything in our world is getting faster and faster and thus we are having to split ourselves up into smaller parts to get everything done. This disrupts our physiology as we have to process more sensory input than we ever have before; the acceleration and distraction we have created in today’s world causes us to be anxious, fearful, depressed, or scatterbrained.
Yoga Nidra is a practice that allows us to do the opposite. By lying down and using the healing power of Divine Sleep, we feel both a sense of unity and a slowing down; we feel wholeness once again. The practice of Yoga Nidra allows us to slow down while making us more unified both individually and collectively.
On today’s podcast, world renowned Yogi, Rod Stryker, tells us why Yoga Nidra, the yoga of Enlightened Sleep, is such an important and effective methodology in our world. It is healing not only on a physical level, but therapeutic to all five of our koshas. Listen in and gain insight on this practice that could possibly change and heal your life!

I love these juicy conversations with author, lecturer, and yoga instructor, Kate O’Donnell. Today, we jump right into how our awareness expands and changes as we dive deeper into the studies of yoga and Ayurveda, and how we can expect ourselves and our physiology to change and evolve on our growth paths. There is a greater sensitivity that we begin to notice in our bodies as we move into a deeper attunement with nature and the universe. We intuitively begin to move away from over processed foods, scary movies, loud music, late nights, and over indulging in the things we used to find pleasurable. We learn what it feels like to be truly healthy at a deep, cellular level and what it means to be seated in the self. We learn that some resistance to new routines can be a good thing and that the clear, peaceful, grounding of energy of sattva is much more nourishing than the fast-paced and stimulating energy of rajas. Join us today in this fascinating podcast to learn about your growth path and where your yogic path is taking you.

I have a fantastic conversation today with yogini, spiritual guide, and visionary, Vivianne Nantel about the importance of the yogic path and our movement towards Self Realization. Many people around the world are entering into more subtle levels of awareness as they shift their thoughts, actions, and patterns from gross to the subtle. Vivanne, AKA Devi, and I chat about what we are waking up to and how we are waking up on the path to Oneness; what is happening as people realize their potential as blissful, omnipresent, pure consciousness and their true nature as spirit? What does it mean to be one and to co-create with the universe? How does it feel to walk this spiritual path towards Samadhi? As we move in this direction, we discover our own powers, we realize that we are Divine, that we have no limitations, and that we are all One.

For most of us kitchen magic refers to our ability to make tasty and nutritious food. We live in such a consumer society but even those of us who have managed to ditch the processed food still trot off to the drugstore or the health food shop to buy out skincare essentials. In this podcast episode Militza Maury talks about the ah ha moment when she realised the outbreaks she was experiencing on her skin were related to her internal thoughts. She shares how she started making lotions and beauty products for her family as she began to realise how questionable the ingredients in the products she was buying. As time went by she began to share the results of her experiments in hugely popular workshops.
In Western cultures we are fed the idea that only expensive ingredients are effective. Militza talks about visiting many different spas in Bali and learning that in the land of relaxation and pampering great pride is taken in recipes for skin handed down through the generations. Learn how some of the best ingredients you can use for your skin are probably already in your kitchen cupboard.

In Japan, the concept of Ikigai means our purpose in life, or our reason for living. This idea is very interesting to observe across the world, especially in the few blue zones, where people live the longest. On the isolated island of Ojima, many centenarians report their Ikigai as supporting those in their small communities. In fact, Elise emphasizes that one thing that the blue zones have in common is strong community bonding and involvement - especially across generations. Cate explains that ethos is not just what connect us to ourselves, it is what connects us to each other, and having everyday access to these connections gives us purpose in our lives. Mixed-generational households are very common outside of western society, and they provide support, enrichment, and educational interaction between friends and family of different ages. These kind of communities promise life-long, wholesome interaction and resilience against the guaranteed struggles of a lifetime. Other interesting factors in these communities is the tendency for regular social interaction and long walks, and lack of prescription medications from doctors. There is plenty we can learn from these blue zone communities and their lifestyle habits that we can hopefully incorporate into our own live to experience healthier aging. Tune into this podcast episode to discover these ideas for yourself!

We often find ourselves in situations where we react with frustration. Mary and Cate chat about the potential that we all possess to transform our frustration into a much better alternative: amusement. The truth is that we all have “buttons” that trigger emotional responses in a patterned way. By taking the initiative to become aware of our triggers and reactions, we can encounter a new perspective. Mary discusses her own experience with developing a new understanding of her own negative reactions. By knowing her own triggers and what made them worse, she discovered the possibility of redirecting that negative energy into amusement instead. Cate addresses the fact that we often are engendering those negative emotions with foods that bring out the worse. There are many factors that influence our reactions, and the more that we do to minimize those factors, the more likely it is that a change in perspective will make a positive impact on our level of frustration

When it comes to getting better sleep, Ayurveda has a lot to teach us. With more than 20 years of experience learning and teaching Ayurveda, Mary Thompson has a wealth of information to share about how we can utilize Ayurveda to address the rampant sleep issues we are seeing in our society. Sleeplessness and sleep issues are now not only an issue in adults, but also in kids. How can we address this detrimental and widespread issue?
Cate and Mary chat about the culmination of our various lifestyle habits that lead to sleep deprivation, especially regarding electronics and diet. Most of the serotonin that helps us stay asleep is produced in the gut, and when we disregard our digestion, we face disruptions in our sleep. Stimulants like coffee make this issue even worse and only add to the loss of sleep over time. Adding technology makes the issue even worse. Overuse of bright screens on phones and laptops, especially late at night, disrupt our natural sleep rhythm.
Mary identifies habits we can use to address these issues in our lives, rather than masking the issues with sleep aids. Tune into this episode to learn how you can take the step to get better sleep!
