This week, we’re chatting about body image. Everyone has a body image and it can be pretty shitty sometimes. Between what we heard growing up, models, celebrities, marketing, and social media, we have been given countless contrasting beauty ideals. It’s impossible to keep up with. So we’re talking about how we’ve held that tension throughout the years, our own experiences with our body images, what it feels like to deal with bad body image days, how social media influences us, and the way the ideal body image has changed over time.
Trigger Warning: we mention some experiences with anorexia and bulimia. If that is a sensitive topic for you, feel free to skip this one!

In today’s episode, we share our experiences starting therapy, talk about good vs. bad uncomfy feelings, and provide some helpful tips we’ve learned trying to navigate the tangled web that is mental health care. Getting over the stigma and deciding to seek out therapy is a huge accomplishment. Finding a therapist you actually like is a whole other task. We’ve been on this bumpy road for a decade (?!?) so we’ve learned a few tools that make it a bit easier.

In this episode, we’re talking about opening up to your friends about depression and how to be there for your friends when they do. We cover all the things NOT to say, give a little look into why it's so hard for people with depression to reach out, and talk about being a safe place for your friend to open up when they're depressed. Being or becoming someone who is safe for your friends to open up to about these issues can be a game-changer for the depth your friendships can reach. We're sharing our stories of how depression shows up in our friendship so hopefully by the end of it, you not only feel less alone but more equipped to break down barriers between you & your besties.

So much of the conversations around breakups seem to focus only on the “glow up,” “breakup bod,” "show him what he's missing", etc., which can be pretty toxic when it’s often not how we actually feel going through it. A big part of the process is feeling the grief and sadness at the end of the relationship, which shows up in a lot of different ways.
Join us as we share our stories of breakdowns in aisle 7 at the grocery store, going on week-long benders, sobbing in the car in the work parking lot, and more.
This is just the beginning! We can't wait to share more with you all. Let us know your feedback or what you want to hear more about:

Come on in, the water is terrifying & we all have anxiety.
Totally Mental is about the real, messy, hard parts of being human. Mental health, breakups, therapy, sex, and all the other unedited shit that we all go through but never post to the Instagram grid. We’re taking you to the bathroom floor moments -- before things worked out, before the perspective or the ~glow up~, before it feels ok. Let’s get into all the feels together because you’re not alone on this rollercoaster. This is all a part of being human
