    In this episode, Ekemini and Christina sit down at the table with Mahogany Jones! Mahogany Jones is a lyrical force, is a recording and performance artist, arts educator, and US musical ambassador who’s served 18 countries to date.
    As a HipHop Soul artist she has shared stages with acts such as The Roots, India Arie, KEM, Moonchild, Royce da’5’9”, Lecrae, Rapsody, Kareem Riggins, and the like.
    Recently a TEDx Speaker, she was awarded as a 2018 Detroit Music Award’s Outstanding Rap MC, and is most noted as 4x undefeated BET’s 106&Park Freestyle Friday Battle Champion. Her latest album is “SugarWater”.

The women of the table were retreating from foolishness and into the gospel.   • Black Woman Rising: For Such a Time as This by Reverend Sharon Risher
    Truth’s Table is introducing a new intermittent series entitled, “Black Woman Rising.” In this episode, Ekemini and Christina are joined by Rev. Sharon Risher to discuss her book For Such a Time as This. For anyone grappling with how to forgive the unforgivable, rebuild lives in the shadow of death, and hold on to sanity in the midst of hate, Rev. Risher’s story in For Such a Time as This will help you find your faith, and ultimately encourage and heal.
    Rev. Sharon Washington Risher was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She earned a Masters of Divinity at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and served as Staff Chaplain and Trauma Specialist at Parkland Hospital and as Associate Pastor for Congregational Care at Rice Chapel AME Church in Dallas, TX.
    Since the Charleston massacre on June 17, 2015, in which she lost her mother, two cousins, and a childhood friend, Rev. Risher has been an advocate for revising gun laws, and is a spokesperson for the grassroots advocacy groups Everytown Survivor Network and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. She has appeared on CNN, BBC Radio, Good Morning America, and CBS and has been interviewed or written for Time, Marie Claire, Essence, Texas Monthly, Vogue, and VOX. Her advocacy work brought her to the White House, where she witnessed President Barack Obama sign executive orders pertaining to new gun laws. A sought-after speaker, Rev. Risher has shared her story of loss, forgiveness, racism and gun law reform with audiences across the United States. Pull up a chair and have a seat at the table with us!

  • Behind The Book: The Color of Compromise by Jemar Tisby
    In this episode, Christina and Ekemini are joined by Jemar Tisby to discuss his book, “The Color of Compromise.” Jemar (B.A. Notre Dame; Mdiv RTS Jackson) is the president of The Witness: A Black Christian Collective where he writes about race, religion, and culture. He is also the co-host of "Pass The Mic”, a podcast that amplifies dynamic voices for a diverse church. His writing has been featured in the The Atlantic, the Washington Post, CNN, Vox, and the New York Times. He has spoken nation-wide at conferences on racial justice, U.S. history, and the church. He is the author of The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church’s Complicity in Racism. Jemar is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Mississippi studying race, religion and social movements in the 20th century.
