Today we are talking with my right-hand girl- Desiree.

Desiree started out as a student in my courses. It was easy to see that she was using all of the information that was given to her to really help her progress into her best self.  Desiree is a perfect example of how the natural progression of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs works.  

She moved into my Community Manager for our Facebook Group, and then I quickly realized I needed her in every aspect of my life! She’s now serving as my Director of Operations/Executive Assistant/Whatever else I decide to throw at her that day, and I don’t know what I would do without her.

Self Actualized Individual. Have you ever heard of this term?

A self actualized person is someone who makes a consistent attempt to focus on taking charge of their health and striving to improve it. This is someone who is reaching their full potential, and is on the path to greatness. Sounds great right? That’s what we all want. However, a lot of people are wondering how? How can I consistently show up for myself instead of being stuck in a cycle of giving up on myself over and over. Today I am teaching on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This theory shows us that there are different layers of self care that build on one another. The idea though, is that if you haven’t taken care of the basic needs that you can not progress to the next level of self actualization. Is self-care selfish? Is practicing self-care going against the bible? 

If you’ve been here with me for a little while, you already know my feelings on this topic. However, the message above is one that’s being spread via social media- making mama’s all over the world feel like taking care of themselves is unbiblical. This message is ridiculous and inaccurate.  I believe that this message is toxic, and one of the main reasons why women all over the world feel guilty for taking care of themselves. The kids are home for the summer...now what!?

I think this thought has crossed all of our minds, whether your kids are home from school for the summer or you are a home-schooling mama. Summer can be a busy time, full of fun activities!  However as moms, it’s a normal feeling to think that we need to entertain our kids 24/7. It can be exhausting! It doesn’t have to be that way. It is actually a healthy habit to have your child participate in independent play. It can benefit their problem-solving skills, imagination, social skills, and much more. Boundaries- everybody needs them. Yet, they are something that most of us still struggle with.

When we think about setting healthy boundaries- it can fill us with fear, anxiety, and guilt. As moms, we naturally become people-pleasers and tend to put everyone else’s needs before our own. We have been conditioned to think that this is normal, but it does NOT have to be that way.

This topic is VERY personal for me. Once I learned how to set, and follow through with healthy boundaries, it changed everything for me.  Today we are talking ALL things boundaries with Jocelyn Hamsher, a licensed professional counselor and course creator, who runs a private practice in Arizona. She is passionate about helping people heal from trauma and learn to lead healthy lives. This episode is full of great, practical advice on how to set boundaries with yourself, and those around you.
