What’s the secret to having superhero-like healing abilities? The human strength expert Kyle Newell has been working out at home. The past few days, he can’t completely bend his right leg and lock it out. Medical checkups show that he has a bucket handle meniscus tear. Tune in to his story, and learn how you too can recover from any kind of joint injury in record time!
A Major ComebackIt all started in 2014. Kyle just competed in a bodybuilding show after a 6-year layoff. He wanted his wife Devin to see him compete, and also use the show as a comeback from his patellar rupture.
In one of the games, however, someone threw him a cross court pass. He jumped right on to get it, but something didn’t feel right. He felt like his leg has been disconnected.
Dealing with a FractureKyle should already be on the ground the time he felt that. Instead, his right knee hit the ground while his left knee was bent 90°. He suffered extreme pain from the snap.
When a tendon comes off the bone, it still sticks. And if the tendon remains intact, the pain is significantly less. That is commonly referred to as avulsion fracture.
Lessons that Everyone Can LearnThankfully, Kyle had both patellar tendons. He had surgery four days later, but was already “deadlifting” within 7 weeks after the surgery. Typical timeline should be 18 to 24 months.
From that experience, he learned how to recover in record time. Like Kyle, you may not have thought about getting an injury. But it happens, and you need to get back when it does.

Sometimes people ask, is sleep the cousin of death? This is mainly because there does not seem to be much difference between having a regular sleep and lying on a coffin. Tune in as the human strength expert Kyle Newell discusses both physical and metaphorical aspects of it! He shares some classic insights from his experiences that everyone can also apply.
Time for EverythingIt was in 2011 when Kyle and his wife Devin just moved in together. It was also the time when the Newell Strength facility just opened. That year proved to be a major adjustment period to him.
He wanted to spare some time together with Devin. So, he decided to get up by 4AM before training at certain days. He didn’t want both his time for Devin and for work to go in conflict.
From 4AM, however, that eventually turned to 3:30AM until it finally became 2AM. He did not care much if he didn’t get enough sleep. He wanted to make sure everything’s settled with.
Not a Sign of WeaknessKyle would always hear people say that you should only sleep when you’re dead. He practiced that until his body started breaking down. Consequently, he suffered from severe pneumonia and a ruptured patellar tendon in their first year of marriage.
Later on, a friend told him not to believe guys when they say they don’t sleep. Sleep is not necessarily a sign of weakness.
The Significance of SleepKyle found that most people need at least 6 hours of sleep. Everyone needs sleep to manage energy well.
From what he learned in functional medicine, 10PM to 2AM is when the physical repair of the body takes place. Psychological repair then occurs from 2AM to 6AM. It’s how the human body functions.

On today’s episode, the human strength expert Kyle Newell talks about Tool Boy. for those new to the concept, he is a real person which has morphed into a mythical legend. He represents people that are annoying. Tune in to Beware the Tool Boys in Your Life. Kyle has a fascinating story to tell. Tune in!
The Needy Nice GuyUntil Kyle met his wife Devan, he would go through a lot of girlfriends that were never too serious that would invariably break up with Kyle. They told him he was too nice and Kyle would beat himself up over this.
Kyle thought he needed a girlfriend to feel whole. He was attracting other needy people that need him to fill a void in their lives. When you come from a place of need you find you have more neediness in your life.
Look Inside YourselfAfter his last girlfriend broke up with him, he did some internal work. He went to the beach and started writing in his journal about what he thought his perfect partner would be.
Kyle didn’t write about just the physical aspects, he wrote about the emotional and spiritual aspects as well. Kyle then had a coming to Jesus moment in his life. He loved who he was and was not going to change for anyone. He was going to be himself.
Addiction to AttentionSix months later Kyle met that person he had been writing in his journal about. He did not know it was going to be a relationship but he was approaching it from a completely different vantage point.
What does all of this have to do with Tool Boy? Tool Boy represents neediness. It’s all about attention. Tool Boy’s feel a huge void in their life and they need attention. It becomes their drug.
Attention is a drug just like food, weed/drugs, booze or porn. It alleviates a symptom but does not get to the root of the problem. It’s like binge eating. It provides temporary relief. Soon you’re empty again and are looking for something to fill your void.

On today’s episode, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares insights and tips about marketing and as it relates to everyday life. Tune in to How To Use Marketing Skills In your Everyday Life. Kyle has a fascinating story to tell. Tune in!
Everything is about persuasion in your life. You spend time persuading yourself and others all the time. Once you put marketing into that frame of reference, it’s very easy to see how it can benefit you.
What Marketing Is NotIn 2014, Kyle went to Mexico over the Fourth of July for a nice getaway. Kyle had just competed in his second bodybuilding show of the season a week before.
About half way through the week, they went to a resort where you get a free day’s pas but there was a catch. The resort tried to sell them a timeshare.
To Kyle this was fascinating. They were pros and excellent at what they did. It left Kyle with a bad taste in his mouth because they were so overly aggressive and pushy in their selling technique.
Solutions Need ProblemsMarketing is about persuasion and influence. You need to have a solution that solves another’s problem.
For example, Da Vinci was the first person to invent the parachute but there was no interest. The reason there was no interest is because there was no need. There were no planes.
StorytellingThe brain focuses on problems. It’s a survival mechanism. There must be a need for what you are trying to sell and you must be able to communicate your solution.
People love stories. The brain is fascinated by personal stories and is hard-wired to communicate this way.
Kyle is continually influencing his clients through inspiration. He tells little snippets of his life. People love this. It is how Kyle creates a community. A community that is fascinated by his storytelling.

On today’s episode, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares insights and tips about gaining weight. Tune in to The Secret of How I Gained 30 Pounds of Muscle in One Summer. Kyle has a fascinating story to tell. Tune in!
It Started with a DesireKyle was 16 years old in his first summer of lifting. He gained 30 pounds of muscle from end of May to September 1. He was a teenage boy that time, and didn’t know much about hormones.
To become bigger, he ate as much as he could and lifted weights six days a week. He knew more about lifting because he studied a lot about it.
In support to his endeavor, his father bought him a weight gain shake. Each shake was equivalent to about 5,000 calories. Kyle diligently drank it despite its bad taste.
Apart from the shake, he also went to Burger King with his friend for four to five days a week. They’d order the Triple Cheese Burger. He was really obsessed into eating a lot to become bigger.
Focused on LiftingKyle was much stronger and bigger compared to other kids in school. The football coach and the basketball coach that time were stunned by his refusal to join their respective teams. He was not into either sports, but was solely into lifting.
Beyond LimitsHis eating habit continued in college. Kyle used to believe that he needed to put in more food to have a stronger and bigger body. As years passed, he realized he was wrong.
One time he went to the dining hall with his friends. He decided to eat 8 pieces of the breaded fish that were being served, apart from other food.
Kyle ate until he finished 6 pieces. He already started to sweat, but determined to consume all 8 pieces. Consequently, he vomited his food just as they stepped out of the hall.
He learned a lot from that experience, and wishes to share how far he is willing to go to gain muscles. Now, Kyle trains high school kids at Newell Strength and imparts to them the lessons he learned. According to him, there’s a need to eat past the point where you’re full.

On today’s episode, the human strength expert Kyle Newell discusses the myth of breakfast and frequent meals. Too often people are led to thinking that eating more is good for the body. Tune in to learn why it isn’t so and how fasting can help you become better!
Business as UsualKyle bought the myth of having to eat often. He used to eat eight meals a day during the height of his bodybuilding career. He followed advices from magazines and coaches.
But as he advanced, he realized the the lessons he learned weren’t based on science. They were based off the ideas founded by the supplement industry.
From a perspective, the food and supplement industries are on for business. They are set to make profit just like other businesses. For that, they need people to consume more of their products.
Away with Stubborn FatKyle did a comeback show in 2014. He had a patellar tendon rupture before that. And, he just focused on lowering his body fat as much as possible.
As he discusses in this episode, there are different fat receptors in the body. There are areas that hold stubborn fat. They are characterized by poor blood flow, and feel colder to touch.
To lose fat, blood has to get in the area to get rid of the fatty acids. If you can’t get in blood, you can’t get the fat out.
A Manageable AppetiteKyle shares the lessons he learned from Lyle McDonald about fasting. According to him, fasting increases blood flow in areas with stubborn fat.
When he read that, he started to diet hard when doing bodybuilding shows. And, it worked. Kyle observed how his appetite became more manageable.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell gives an exciting talk about understanding body language and nonverbal cues. It’s good to determine what people are really trying to express in order to give room for positivity and success in life. Tune in and learn how to be a mind magician!
Sensing the NegativityThe brain and the body are tied to the nervous system. This is why it’s important to understand the nervous system on a basic level. If we aren’t familiar with it, we cannot make the best out with our brain and body.
Think about the time when you sat across someone, and felt the negativity in the air. It’s like you didn’t like to be around that person. Your nervous system took in what your body or brain perceived, and the system doesn’t lie.
The Friend EquationKyle shares a book about body language and human relationship. You can use the lessons it has to create or pull out of friendship. In any type of relationship, there are basically four factors: proximity, frequency, duration, and intensity.
Consider being in a long distance relationship. Both frequency and proximity are low. You’d need to increase the intensity and duration to make up for the loss.
You can figure the equation on paper. It’s fun when you figure things out.
Building A Sphere of PositivityThe more familiar you are with human relationships, the more able you are to build a great sphere of influence. Kyle reminds that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
He admits that there were times when he had to pull people out of his life. He still considers them as friends, but their philosophy in life just didn’t match. There are times when you need to take out the negative to give more place to the positive things in your life.
As Kyle discusses, you don’t have to be mean when cutting someone off. It’s completely normal to bond with others. This is why the brain does not pick up what happens in the process.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares his nutrition principles. Listen to know how he developed it, and learn how it could work for you too!
Here are the show highlights of The Truth of the Newell Strength Nutrition Principles:
Kyle can consume lots of food. Back in 2014, few months after a bodybuilding competition, he spent some time off with his family and friends. Once he consumed lots of donuts, and ate a quart of rice pudding an hour after.
On their way to the next town, he and his wife stopped at a waffle house. There he ate some eggs and three peanut butter waffles. Everyone was amazed how he was able to consume that much amount of food.
Weight Gain JourneyHis appetite started in 1997 when he was still in high school. That was the time he started lifting. His approach was to eat as much as he could to gain weight.
He’d go to Burger King with his friend, and order two triple cheese burgers. He continued to consume as much calories until he reached 210 lbs in his high school graduation.
Kyle was lean back then. He continued to do the same in college, and was allowed by his fraternity to workout every day and to eat when he wanted to.
Free Days and Cheat DaysBy junior year, Kyle realized the need to change his approach. He decided to diet down. That’s when he got the idea of free days and cheat days.
He began to monitor the food he’d eat. He wanted to make sure they were good for him. Kyle continued to do so until he heard about Scott Abel and his Cycle Diet.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares the principles he learned in strength training and how he developed them. Tune in and learn how you can apply them as well!
Here are the show highlights of How I Came Up With the Newell Strength Training Principles:
Leo Costa and Tom Platz’s Big Beyond Belief inspired Kyle early in life. He wanted to grow muscles and be stronger. He wanted to boost his confidence and attract people.
Kyle read the book in just two days, and reread it a couple times over. It taught him about full body training and the body system.
Ranking Different Types of ExerciseKyle also learned about ranking different types of exercise. According to Leo and Tom, the highest type of exercise allows the body to move through space.
An example is the idea of pull up vs pull down. Pulling up ranks higher. It also stimulates the brain more.
Background in BodybuildingFull body training was life changing for Kyle. With it, he had shorter workouts and was able to train more frequently.
He understood the body’s system even while in college, and continued to put on muscles and strength. After graduation, he worked for a football strengthening program. Kyle is very much interested in his field.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares tips and insights that you can use to hone your brain towards success. Understand the need and identify your action steps!
Here are the show highlights of How to Make Your Brain More Dominant:
It’s critical to know how to learn and be a great student. You can learn from anyone—mistakes, coaches, experiences, mentors, peers.
“Empty your cup every day. Otherwise, it’s full and you can’t put anything else new into it.” -Kyle Newell
Growing up, Kyle was never a great student. He was not someone who was into classroom learning. For him, education comes mostly from the lessons learned outside of school.
Your Brain’s CEOYou are in-charge of your brain. As Kyle discusses, lessons do not simply transmute into your brain. You need to command, set, grow, and help it move forward.
A speaker once said that you’ll be among the lead experts in your field if you read an hour a day for 5 years. You need to learn constantly.
Everytime he tries to learn something, Kyle warms up his brain. He’d go on a trampoline and do recall games. Afterwards, he’d proceed to his hammer drills (refer to episode 33).
The Stages of LearningThere are basically four stages of learning. The first is pass learning, where you simply learn something by going through it. Next is competency, where you become comfortable.
Third is fluency, where things become easy as a result of hard work. The last stage is mastery, which requires at least 10,000 hours to achieve.
