Gulp … gulp … gulp … ahhh! … Oh hey Inner Strength listener. What’s up? I didn’t see you there. I was just downing a tall glass of water. You should be drinking one, too. Water is extremely important and relevant to the topic we’re going to discuss today, which is how to recover your body after taxing workouts.
This podcast comes as a special request from one of my clients, and I’ll tell you, I have been extremely high on good recovery ever since I experienced the excruciatingly painful consequences of no recovery following the weeks upon weeks of intense work leading up to the 2007 IFBB state championships.
Settle in, and take notes on the knowledge I’m about to drop on you because it will help you get better results -- bigger gains in less time while reducing soreness and protecting against tactile and nervous system injury.
Are you training hard enough for recovery to be an issue? Most people don’t. When I say “hard enough” I mean how much of your nervous system are you activating when you train? If you are training at an intense level then recovery, i.e., proper rest, becomes extremely important. Here’s what you’re gonna need to know:
Sleep is your body’s natural recovery and repair tool. When you sleep, your body regulates hormones and recharges the brain. This is why when I hear so-called gurus talking about their “strug-life”, “sleep when you die” mindset, I have a hearty belly laugh. I’d do it right in their face, too, because I know it’s all a bunch of nonsense. If they are doing this, I can guarantee you it’s not often, and if it is, their productivity and creativity are so impaired, it might even make me sad for them. Don’t buy them day-old donuts. Here’s what you need to know about what happens when you sleep:
Amino acids are the building blocks for rebuilding your muscle tissue. You need lots of good high-quality protein (i.e., amino acids) for recovery, but you’ll also need more. Learn:
Here are a few other things that help cut recovery time, release endorphins and promote nervous system rejuvenation:
Well, friends, this was a full episode. There was a lot of great information you can use right away to help you get the most out of your training. Remember, stress comes in many forms and you can use these tips to deal with stress in all of its forms. Now get out there and get after it! You’re stronger than you know.
More next time!
Peace,
What’s happening Inner Strength friends? Is anyone else super frustrated by all of these over-emotional social justice warriors all over social media? It’s like you can’t say anything without offending someone. Well, get over it! Because today I’m going to talk about haters (which is just what SJWs are ...) and how their opinion is none of yours. But first ...
Your friend’s eyeball is just “ok” fish bait …Last week I promised you I’d open the show by telling you the story of how I almost caught a fish using the King’s eyeball as bait. Ok, ok … I never almost caught a fish. In fact, when I hooked his eye -- because me reel locked up in my back cast -- I experienced a FREEZE moment (Remember? We talked about your body’s natural physiological responses to stress a couple episodes ago ...). This was the day I learned we have a choice in how we respond to stress. I also learned just how tough the King is, and I’ve never questioned his toughness since.
On to business ...
There’s something fishy about haters …Haters gotta hate … I learned this the hard way when I ran a Ripped Abs contest last year on Facebook. I’d like to save you from mountains of frustration by sharing with you what I learned from the experience, such as:
You’ve gotta be in the right state of mind to control your thoughts (12:58), and this is a great way to deal with haters.
This was a fun episode for me, and I hope you enjoy it. If you’re doing anything that matters you’re going to get some hate at some point. I hope you use these tips to keep focused and keep growing. You’re stronger than you know.
Be back with you next week!
Peace,
Guys, I’ve seen the light. I’ve been so blind this whole time. Thanks to our good ole’ buddy, Tool Boy, for setting me straight with all of his melodramatic feels! I just had to share with you all, if you’re doing one-rep max lifts in the gym, STOP IMMEDIATELY! He woke me to the fact that it’s totes dangerous, yo.
Screw the whole, science, facts, and actual deep-level understanding of how your body’s physiology really works, thing. One-rep maxes are going to strain your muscles so hard they’ll pop right off your bones and maybe poke your spotter’s eye out.
If you haven’t caught on yet (but I know you have -- you’re smart enough to listen to this show so you’re quick like that) I’m being more than a little sarcastic.
Today’s show is all about (1) who the hell not to listen to; and, (2) understanding the truth of why people REALLY get hurt in the gym (Hint: It aint due to one-rep max lifts). Knowing this will keep your reps rockin’ and pecks from poppin’.
The softest generation …*Side note* Most millennials are way too soft. My WWII veteran grandpa could still kick any millennial’s ass. Just sayin’ … (03:24)
Other nuggets you’ll learn, dear strength lockpicker …Well, my friend, there’s a lot of nutritious thought-meat in this episode. I hope you enjoy it and take something away from it that you can use to grow stronger (mentally, physically and emotionally -- especially emotionally, so you’re not the the next Tool Boy waxing dramatic rhetoric on Facebook Live to feed your low self-worth).
Next week is the show’s one-year anniversary. I’ve got some great stuff lined up for you, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’ll just have to tune in to see what’s up.
I want to thank you for being a loyal listener. You’re stronger than you know (but you don’t have to prove it by going all out with a one-rep max).
Peace,
Can unlocking your inner strength help to keep your spouse “to thine own love be true”? Most certainly, if you understand the driving reason for why people cheat on their spouses (Hint: it ain’t because the cabana boy is exotic or the milkman is sexier than you). In this podcast I tell you the secret on why people cheat on their spouses and how you can use this knowledge to not only keep her true, but overcome the obstacles that keep you from achieving your goals. (04:40)
Your brain is stupid cool! One night, while I was pulling “Dad Duty” so Devon could sleep, I saw a truck in the driveway of the house next to us. No big deal, right? Well, this house has been in foreclosure for a while and I know ain’t nobody supposed to be over there. I decided to wake up Devon and we called the cops. I thought about going over to confront who was there and that thought, plus just how out-of-the-ordinary it was, got us both pretty excited.
Reflecting on the experience has shown me some pretty valuable things which I share with you in this episode. The more you know about your brain and how it works, the better you’ll do in life. Just imagine being able to: (02:35)
That night I even discovered a foolproof aphrodisiac that your brain craves like a bee craves a flower. (3:08)
Trusting your cones for bigger cojonesYour eyes have six to seven million cones, each, and most are concentrated around the macula. In nature, a wolf takes down a musk-ox from the rear and the side -- never head-on.
The cones in our eyes help you to see side-advancing threats so you can react. In these moments you have a choice: (06:20)
Fight, Freeze or Run
Understanding these natural reactions can help you prepare and plan for chaos so when it inevitably comes, you can react and adapt to keep your strength journey moving forward.
Other important items in this episode ...That’s it for this week! I hope you find the tidbits useful and entertaining. Until next time, keep searching for those keys to unlock your inner strength. You’re stronger than you know.
Peace,

Question 1: Of Dreams and Taking ActionAccording to Kyle, there is the idea of believing in self and going for your dreams. But many don't get what they want because they don't take action.
“Only take advice from people who already have what you want.” -Kyle Newell
While he was still teaching, he would encourage his students to follow their dreams. Kyle was glad he did not listen to skeptics.
Question 2: Of Being HeardPeople ask Kyle how to speak so people will listen. He shares the value of listening first. People will ask you if they want to learn from you. Also, be mindful of how you communicate your thoughts.
Question 3: Of Being HumiliatedKyle remembers the time when his teacher in Biosignature humiliated him in class. His teacher decided to do a demonstration using him as the subject. It was the same joke that he's been using in his class.

Why do you quit on the things you don't want to quit on? The human strength expert Kyle Newell talks about the popular topic of burnout. Tune in for some classic insights, so that you too may also discover why you quit!
Time Intensity CurveAccording to Kyle, there is a need to leverage time and realize that chaos happens. It won't derail you completely if you plan for it.
“There is a time and place to quit when you know that what you are doing is completely up the wrong path.” -Kyle Newell
In the time intensity curve, the vertical line reflects the amount of intensity. The horizontal line, on the other hand, reflects time.
People become very intense when they try to make a difference in their lives or when they try to transform. But the intensity eventually fades away. The brain simply cannot pursue anything that is based on willpower.
Uninformed Optimism and Informed PessimismUnderneath the short period when intensity starts to die, there is what Kyle calls uninformed optimism. You think that things will work because of your will power.
“The only way that you cannot succeed with whatever it is that you want to do in your life, is if you quit.” -Kyle Newell
On the other hand is informed pessimism. It is when you realize that things will be difficult because of the process it requires.
Consistency towards MasteryKyle writes about 2,400 words every day. He does it just within 40 minutes.
“It's an amazing to most people in life when you just consistently show up.” -Kyle Newell
Many tend to quit long before they even try to master things. You may have heard of the 10,000-hour rule. It requires focus, an intense area of study, and application.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares how you too can protect your life by following these nutritional laws. There are myths in the wellness industry which you may not be aware of. Tune in for some classic insights and tips!
When Vegan Diet Does Not WorkThere is news about a 7-month old baby who died of malnutrition. The surprising fact is that the baby’s parents own a health food store in Europe.
They were feeding him with much like vegan milk. Unfortunately, vegan diet does not work. Kyle discusses that everyone needs amino acids to survive.
The Significance of CholesterolWhen it comes to diet, everyone needs cholesterol. It is a precursor to all sex hormone production in the body. The brain needs cholesterol to function properly.
Cholesterol synthesizes and produces vitamin B3. Every hormone in the body has a B3 receptor.
Cutting Down CaloriesWhen it comes to losing fat or altering your body composition, it is not good to cut down calories. That only works for so long until you have nowhere to go.
The calories equation myth is another lie. What you can do instead is focus on the proper food to get the nutrition that your body needs.

On today's episode, Kyle Newell gives an insightful review of the book New World Ronin by Victor Pride. Kyle considers Victor as his fellow hustler, someone who is always making moves in life. He understands that he only has one shot to make something great. Tune in and understand why a slave without a master is a curse!
Move Forward to SucceedOne of the prime ideas highlighted in the book is forward momentum. It means that if you want to achieve greatness, you have to keep going. There is no stopping to your ultimate goal.
“If you do not constantly move forward, you'll never get better.” -Victor Pride
Momentum is the most powerful force on earth. Whether it's a positive momentum or a negative one, it is very powerful. You will achieve your goal if you keep moving forward and focus on its process.
Taking Responsibility for Your LifeHaving momentum gives you responsibility. When you take that responsibility, you give yourself the ultimate power.
Those who blame their circumstances on others don't have power. They have no ability to transform their lives because they believe that they have nothing to do with what happens to them.
Just Do ItAnother idea that the book imparts is this: reflection is the enemy of action. Nothing will ever happen if you just talk about your ideas.
Consider those who say they want to write a book. In reality, only few people take action. Not everyone who wants to write a book actually do it.

On today’s episode, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares the truth about being ‘ripped’. The bodybuilding competition is an exciting event that many look forward to. This brings Kyle back to memories and insights of his past experiences. Tune in!
A Bodybuilding ChampKyle used to work for a strength and conditioning staff in 2003. That was his first time to see someone shredded. To Kyle, the guy was like a mini Ronnie Coleman who won 8 Mr. Olympia’s.
Muscles were popping out of his muscles. He did not even have to watch what he was eating, but only needed enough food to maintain his muscle mass.
Putting on MusclesNow, people ask Kyle how they too can put on muscles. Unfortunately, not everyone is genetically cut to be ripped. You can’t just put on muscles when you want to.
Remember that body fat is stored energy, and that the brain and nervous system are hard-wired for survival. Unless you are cut out to be ripped, your body will fight against it.
Female vs Male Body FatFemales usually can have 10% more body fat than males. They need it for childbearing reasons. They also have different fat patterns.
Males’ stubborn fat is usually in the stomach region. On the other hand, the females’ stubborn fat is usually in the thighs, glutes, and hamstrings.

In today’s show, the human strength expert Kyle Newell shares how you too can discover your path. Everyone has his own unique path to follow. However, sometimes you could feel like getting behind or going astray. Tune in to what Kyle says about it, and learn tips that can help you become better!
YOUR Path to TakeIn his recent Mastermind session, Kyle learned that none can go off his path. This is because you have your own path. You can commit mistakes, go slowly, or feel like getting off it but it’s still yours to take.
For Kyle, everything that happened in his life led him to becoming the person he is now. There could be times in life where you’d want to speed through things. But just as Ghandi put it, there’s more to life than increasing its speed.
Take Time, No RushHaving the need to rush to your goals can result into anxiety. You tend to focus on external things that are mostly uncontrollable. That’s when you start basing everything on whether you made it or not.
“Knowing that it’s all your path and that there is no race—there’s no rush—to get there, it’s important that we take time to relax.” -Kyle Newell
Time is limited. This is why you could feel like you don’t have the time to do specific things. That makes you force things until you get burned out.
Meditation and RelaxationKyle spent some 10 minutes today at the river. He meditated on the scenes in his life, including the most rewarding ones.
Next, he went into a future scene with all the emotion he could take. He didn’t think about the external things, but rather on how many people he could inspire.
